Petition

Here is a link a coach is passing around here in Alabama. I have no clue if this can do anything but it's a start.

The best part is that the IOC could have dropped the incredibly corrupt boxing; a sport that was completely discredited by bribe scandals in London last summer.

I don't mind the inclusion of team sports like soccer, basketball, ice hockey etc. They generate revenue and are usually much more entertaining than some of the other Olympic disciplines.

I'm a huge boxing fan, but Olympic boxing is an absolute joke. They should drop it unless and until they can clean it up.

. Actually I do watch and care. As a matter of fact I watch (or at least try to with the crazy assed schedule they usually have) this and the weightlifting more than most of the other events

first Title IX fricked wrestling over, and now this.

If you dont think this had an indirect effect on this get your head out of the sand. When a sport is popular in the USA it gets pop around the world. Why else is BMX an event? Fact is wrestling is a dying sport at the college level thanks to Title IX. This has led to fewer boys being interested in it at the high school and middle school level. But hey thanks to Title IX we now have chick softball exploding. This means everytime you want to take your "SON" to the field to work on baseball you can wait for the dad who wishes he had a son to finish with his daughters travel team.

I like wrestling, but don't really watch it except for the Olympics.

I'm pissed on behalf of wrestling fans, because if there was any sport that deserves to be in the Olympics, it's wrestling.

Wrestling is out but badminton, rhythmic gymnastics, synchronized swimming and fricking ping pong are in. Guess the IOC needs to keep the Asian medal counts up.

Wrestling is one of the purest damn sports in the games. No equipment needed. Huge credibility hit to olmoics.

It's pretty ridiculous. It's an original Olympic sport, and when you think of the ancient games, wrestling is what you think of.

That's pretty fricked up. Youth Wrestling is really on an upswing in the USA. Absolutely ludicris to drop the sport. Bad move, terrible move.

I hate the IOC it's one of the more corrupt organizations you'll find.

shitty decision, but understandable given the cynicism of Olympic sports. Wrestling is a niche sport in the largest TV markets, and those who do watch it aren't a desirable demographic to marketers. Some of the sports that made it are either ratings winner (ie rhythmic gymnastics, popular with females,) or appeal to a well off demographic. "Nobody" watches equestrian sports, but those who do make golf fans look like People of Wal Mart by comparison.

NBC is down with this decision, and it wouldn't surprise me to learn that they had a good deal of influence in it.

From a financial perspective, modern pentathlon is a sport no one cares about. It should have been taken off the Olympic schedule, not wrestling.

I think that in all honesty, this is just an attempt by the IOC to get bribes from former Soviet countries to bring wrestling back as the "conditional sport" for 2020. It is competing with baseball/softball, karate, roller hockey, and some other sports to be the 26th sport for 2020.

Four of the best American achievements in the olympics happened in wrestling. Dan Gable in 1972 didn't give up a single point en route to the Gold Medal.

The son of the former head of the IOC is essentially a lobbyist for the Modern Pentathlon.

why should karate be added if TKD is already an olympic sport. TKD is basically korean karate with more flashy kicks. it isn't all that different.
