the local Sportsman's Warehouse has them in black synthetic stock for $375. It's supposed to be the most versatile shotgun. It will be my first shotgun, I have borrowed and used many before but this will be mine. I'm not a big hunter but would like to turkey hunt this year and maybe deer hunt this fall and use it for home defense. I have pistols now that I target shoot and use for home defense. Any advice would be appreciated!

It's a solid pump shotgun. I know many people who use them with zero problems.

I would rather an 870 for pump action, but that's just my personal preference due to comfortability. I'd go hold it and see if it feels good to you.

Solid gun, just make sure to keep it relatively clean. Buddy of mine has one, didn't clean it before big duck season spent the whole morning jamming after the first shot.

I had an 870 for years, then got the Nova when they first came out, because of the 3.5" capability. I could never figure out how to hit anything with it. The grip and balance is very different from the 870. I sold it after 1 duck season and got an 870 Super Mag.
I would shoot it first to make sure you like it.
ETA: The Nova is a solid gun, my buddies still shoot them.

Never heard anybody complain about them and seem to be better than the new 870s. Will be my next shotgun purchase

I shot a semi auto high end Bennelli shooting skeet. It was a sweet gun but around $1,600. I have not shot the nova. I am bad about not keeping guns as clean as they need to be. I have to work on that.

I have hunted with one before, and my main gripe is that the forearm wiggles around way too much for me. For a pump, I would rather an 870 or a BPS

I've had one for 5 or so years. Mine is Max-4 camo patterned. No real problems other than the safety sticking in the on position. I oiled it up good and it went back to working just fine. solid pump imo.

More money, but one of the best hunting pumps I have ever used. Keep it in consideration IMO.

Maybe I am the only one who noticed, but why would Remington Dawg be wanting a Benelli?

I got one when they first came out 12 or so years ago. It's been through the fiery gates of bloody hell and back. Like 6 times. One time I almost cleaned it. It keeps on rapping beaks.

The 870 will run as dirty as you leave it. I have seen a guy have to break down his Nova and clean it in the boat after 4 or 5 hunts.
I would also suggest camo or blued if you have bad cleaning habits. The matte finish sucks up moisture and will rust in the gun cabinet. Not a huge issue with the Nova, as it is mostly plastic.
My buddies new SBE is the black matte finish and it looked rough after spending the day in the rain and in a wet floating case.

I heard the Nova is better than the Rem 870 and actually Remington is the name of my GSD. That's how I ended up with the Remingotn Dawg handle.

i have nova and 870.

nova is much better. but if loaded with 3.5" shells i recommend an auto. a day of nailing geese with my nova and i was ready to throw that bastard away. 3" shells at ducks is not too bad to shoot.

I have 2, a standard one in Realtree Max and I bought the tactical version yesterday.

My show off thread.

I cut my teeth on an old Winchester Model 12. It's an old gun with sentimental value so I hung it up and switched to an 870 for a while. I didn't like it so started to look at Benelli Novas

My dad was a gunsmith and I consulted him before buying the Benelli and he said he didn't know much about them b/c he never had one in for repair.

I haven't shot the tactical yet bud I love my standard one. Every time I go bird hunting with friends they always want to try my gun and all of them love it and a few end up going out to buy one.

I am born and bread Louisiana boy and may be one of the few that dislike the Remington 870.

IMHO get the Benelli and never look back.
