I never really understood why anyone would want to shoot a nova over an 870. That being said if you legitimately don't like the way the 870 feels and you do like the way the nova feels then you'd probably shoot it better.

Same here. I'm an 870 man all the way. I love em.

The nova is definitely a solid gun though function wise. It's an ugly SOB, but they work well.

I personally don't care for them.

I actually had someone give me one. I took it duck hunting one time and gave it back.

Just didn't like the feel of it, and it seemed kind of "rickety". It's hard to explain, but the pump just seemed lose.

I'll stick to my 870 wingmaster or BPS10.

I got the Rem 887 which is all synthetic like the nova. I hunt on the coast a good bit and I hate cleaning my weapon. Has performed very well. All I can say is I was sandwiched between a guy with a Benelli SBE 2 on one end and a Beretta Xtrema on the other almost entire season. I was on clean up duty entire season. Too be fair, I shot the SBE a fair amount and its worth ever cent. But if you're going with a pump, go with Rem, as others have said Nova just doesn't feel right.

I bought one used 2 years ago for $200. Gun had less than a box through it. Bought $200 worth of aftermarket extended chokes (hevishot turkey choke, kicks extended mod, and a kicks extra full) to customize to my needs. Homemade camo job to cover up much of the ugliness. It's a killing machine. I have an 870 too, but it's 25 yrs ol and I just keep it as a backup on hunts.

Thanks for all the info, sounds like a toss up over the 870 and Nova.

Love it. Have had one for about 12 years and have cleaned it twice. No problems.

Can't go wrong with either one

An 870 wingmaster wins by a long ways IMO, but also costs much more

My son HAD one. No problems with it. I shot it a bunch, and it didn't fit/feel right.

Same here, but I eventually got used to the gun after shooting an 870 for 35 years.

Have both 870 and Nova. Prefer 870. Not a bad shotgun though.

This was my youngest son's first shotgun. It's only been on two duck hunts and a couple of squirrel hunts but we've put hundreds of rounds through it shooting trap and it continuously cycled rounds like a champ. When we did finally break it down for cleaning we found the receiver was almost spotless.

I've read some complaints about the recoil but honestly it's one of the softest shotguns I've ever handled as far as 2 3/4" and 3" shells are concerned.. I haven't put any 3 1/2" shells through it yet.

Fwiw-I grew up on Model 12s and 870s but just bought a Nova for myself.

I'm off today to interview some pre-school down the road but I am going to our local hardware store that orders guns at 10% over cost and I'll talk to the owner about it also. Thanks for all the info.

I won a Nova 20ga at a DW banquet a few years ago. Great little gun, almost never have to clean it. Shoots well, but is a little light with all that plaxtic, so recoil can be harsh. Occaisionally(like once every two years or so) I have had a problem with it jamming. the maazine will release a shell while i am cycling, and the two shells will get jammed. I have to take it apart to resolve the problem. Other than that, it has been a great gun.
