Parking in NOLA (uptown) next Sunday morning for parades.

We have been to the uptown parades for the past two years, but always states with a friend that lived uptown. My friend moved so I need some advice. What time should we get out there? And any tips on finding a parking spot? TIA

park between St Charles and the river. less ghetto.

Sunday gets pretty packed, I would get down there very early.

If you can come up magazine there are guarded pay lots that are usually pretty open.

I'm more worried about the weather forecast. It's supposed to rain all weekend.

I see a 30% chance on Sunday, that isn't too bad

The former Latter & Blum office at Maple and Fern has a parking lot. They moved that office to Uptown Square, so if the building is still vacant you should be able to park there. 2 blocks from the streetcar, and you can ride to Napoleon for the parade.

they run the streetcar? there is nowhere for them to turn around at Napoleon, I always thought they were shut down on parade days

Thanks for the info. I was thinking about trying to find a place between Claiborne and St. Charles but was worried about the ghetto. I haven't looked at the forecast yet. The rain will probably keep us away I don't think that would be too much fun with a 4 year old.

You can usually find spots between Magazine and St Charles if you get there by mid morning.

Changes everyday. I'm just hoping for no rain Saturday.

I would get there by 7. I would park between St. Charles and the River on the Loyola/Tulane side of Napoleon. Yell at me, I will be on a float.

Don't park in front of my place I'm saving those spots.

The streetcars have several crossover tracks. Used for things like going around an obstruction...they can also use those to reverse direction at Napoleon.

Of course, last Mardi Gras I attended was 2005 so things might have changed.

Thanks for the advice. Hopefully we can make it down that early but not likely with the kid. Im realistically hoping for 8-830. Think I'll still be able to find a spot that late? What parade/float you riding on?

If you can't get up there early enough, let me give you some advice. If you're coming from Metairie area, cross over to the Westbank on the Huey and cross back over to the Eastbank on the CCC. Take the 1st exit off of the CCC on the EB side. This will go MUCH faster than trying to get off at any of the exits heading towards the WB coming from the Eastbank. There have been years I've overslept and sat in traffic on 10 forever trying to get off at either the St. Charles or Tchoup exits, and by sleep in, I mean like 10am LOL
A friend told me that the traffic coming from the WB side is MUCH MUCH lighter.

Or another tip is to use surface streets. I got from Old Metairie to Washington and St. Charles on Bacchus Sunday at about 1pm in about 20 minutes. Just took Palmetto to Washington Ave all the way to St. Charles. Sure, most of that is ghetto, but it's a Sunday morning and there are a lot of people out and about. Just don't stop to buy any drugs and you'll be alright

You'd be surprised at how fast you can get around on back streets since even a lot of locals only know the major thoroughfares.

Ive lucked out and found parking on the Uptown side of Napoleon most years. I usually park a few blocks away and watch the parades on Napoleon. Once it ends it is easy to leave via Tchoupitoulas to the river road.

Causeway to river road take it all the way uptown.

I guess it depends on where you're trying to get. If you're trying to catch it by Napoleon, Causeway to River Rd. would work, but going much farther in(a few of my friends live in the Garden District) and trying to get all the way down there from Magazine or Tchoup(once River Rd ends at Magazine) is nearly impossible with all of the day parades lining up/traffic etc.
