Wrong. I was countering your point that because somewhere is crowded then it must be good. That is inherently flawed argument that I see made on this site every single day, whether the topic is food, movies, sports, etc.

popularity =/= quality

and yes there is obviously room for debate here considering the subjective nature of defining what is "quality," but I think (as far as this board is concerned) that we can all agree that just because places like McDonald's are crowded or movies like Twilight pull in tons of audience members, that doesn't define them as being good, or even acceptable to anyone with a lick of taste.

I really enjoy your posts, but you've got to take back your comments on Houston's! It may have something to do with the location, but the location on The Plaza in KC is awesome. The French dip is hands down the best sandwich ever.....not called a poboy.

Best: Houston's, j Alexander's, PF Changs, Bonefish

On the fence: Outback. I liked it 15 yrs ago but they've gone way downhill. Their salads are much smaller now and prices have gone up more than most places. Still love the awesome blossom, cheese fries and No Rules Pasta with Chicken & shrimp.

Worst: Red lobster, Applebee's, Ruby Tuesday

I never even think of Coyote Blues or Zea's as chains. I thoroughly enjoy both of them.

yeah don't think either of those would qualify as "national" chains.

In responding to a thread like this it probably helps to keep in mind that: a) I'm not comparing chains to locals and most of the chains I've eaten at have at least something that is likeable and "ok" (so stay in the safe waters). That said:

Best: Zea's, Copelands, Carrabbas, Outback, Cracker Barrel, Rudy's
Worst: Olive Garden (but salad and bread sticks are still good), Red Lobster (cheddar biscuits and grilled fish are ok).

This

There is NO worse food in the entire world of food than at Joes Crab.

I also like Changs and Saltgrass.

In terms of Carrabas v. Bravo, I'd pick Carrabas everyday and twice on Tuesday over bravo. I've not found a single thing I like there in at least three attempts.

Absolutely agree about your assessment of Joe's. Sad thing is, I know someone that actually LIKES the place. That's the first and only person I know that likes JCS. Vomit in my mouth. I ate there 10 years ago with my parents and had Mac and cheese that tasted like dish soap. How do you screw up Mac and cheese!?!?

Exactly. If we're doing restaurants in this region with more than one location, we can add on Superior Grill, Bistro Byronz, Tsunami, etc.

I heartily agree with this but let me add, in many cases, the popularity of a place is driven in large part by its price point. Many years ago when I was struggling to raise a family, a monthly sojourn to Pizza Hut, Ryan's, etc. was considered a treat because we just couldn't afford to bring the whole gang out to eat that often. And then there were special occasions like birthday or anniversary : Steak and Ale, baby.

So you make something up but won't admit it until its proven that you are a fricking liar? Wow... That's pretty pathetic.

Pretty sure all their stuff is made from scratch too

Might be made from scratch but certainly not cooked to order. Ate at the one in Lafayette a while back. Ordered baked chicken. Outside was hot, inside FROZEN! Apparently they partially cook their baked chicken, freeze it, then pull it out to finish cooking once ordered. They did give me a free desert but I will stick to breakfast items from here on out.
