I'm sorry, I'm not very knowledgeable on the subject.
It's a 3 yr deal, right? And he'll be unrestricted?
So basically we need, as an organization, sell him on the future and lock him to a max for the 15/16 season and beyond?
Just guesses here. What's the basics on the AD contract life cycle? What do you expect to happen?

42 or tigernatl can give specifics, but basically they control davis for up to 8 years if they want- regardless of his feelings (see cornerstone fiasco)
eta: everything and more on the cap, free agency, etc

He's in season 1 of a rookie deal.
Here's how it works, roughly:
Season 1: $5.1m (we are here)
Season 2: $5.4m (locked in)
Season 3: $5.6m (team option to be picked up before season 2 begins
Season 4: $7.1m (team option to be picked up before season 3 begins)
Now, if we pick up all those options, we can make him a restricted free agent by offering a deal worth at least $9.1m in its first season.
Once restricted, we can match anything, locking him up for 4 more seasons likely, bringing the total to 8.
Alternatively, we can offer him an extension that will get him in a deal that makes him our "designated player" and keep him here for 9 seasons.
Those later years will be max deals likely, so will be tied to the cap, so they are TBD, but think in the order of $15m-$20m for most of the seasons in those deals. There are other factors too.
Of course, he could force his way out, etc., but this is how the contracts will break out, likely the 9 season version.

How does he only make $61k? Isn't the league minimum higher than that? Or does it have something to do with DLeague/10 day contracts

Contracts are prorated. So that's his take, not his season rate. Those look the same when you have a player for an entire season.
As QM said, the 10-day contract is key there.
