Wife said it is time to say buh-bye to her SUV

and now she wants another one. I've tried talking her into a sedan, but she wants no part of it.
What is it with women and SUVs? Are they statistically safer?
From a financial standpoint, a sedan is going to get better gas mileage than an SUV, almost each and every time. The sedans that I have in mind are:
Honda Accord
Nissan Maxima / Nissan Altima
Toyota Avalon
The SUVs that she has in mind are:
Acura MDX
Nissan Pathfinder
Ford F-150 (I know it's a truck)
Not exactly comparing apples to apples here.
Anyone else experience a similar situation with their spouse?

Probably read it in a chain email or something and they've kept it going...
Don't get it either. Wife wouldn't even consider a car. Granted, I drive a truck so I really can't discuss the merits of fuel efficiency with her.

Your wife wants an F-150? I don't know whether I would be happy because I could drive it or worried she caught the gay.
In sterilized government testing where they hit brick walls, no. In the real world where most everyone drives a 4 ton F-250? Yes.
Between your and her choices, they all look good - none are known for horrible depreciation. I'd get a CPO MDX and call it a day.

Do you guys have a bunch of kids that you have to cart around?
My grandmother will not drive a sedan, only SUVs and the reason is she can 'she the road better.' I guess she is referring to sitting up higher off the ground. Not sure if this is one reason why women prefer the SUV.
Wife bought a new camry the other day after she went back and forth between the toyota SUVs. Financially, it just made more sense and we only have one kid.

We have a total of 3 vehicles. I drive a sedan (Altima), V-6 version.
She said she likes riding up high. I said that's not the case in bed and that's why we bought a Jeep Wrangler.
I just think with gas prices the way they are today, it makes sense to buy something more fuel efficient as our primary vehicles. Her vehicle is 10 years old and averages around 14 MPG. Not the best.

I'll be honest, I have no idea. I figured going in we were buying an SUV come hell or high water. I was telling the guys in my fantasy league the other day that good things just happen to good people like myself.

For some reason I didn't realize how much a maxima cost until now. I was think the Avalon cost way more than the rest.

This is the answer to your question. Wives with kids want SUV's. It's genetic. Goes back to the 40s when they wanted station wagons. The SUV today says "I'm married and I have children."
My wife has never had a child. She hates SUVs. She drives a 2008 Nissan 350Z convertible.

The Maxima's can get pretty costly. I assumed that the Avalon's were around 30. Maybe not? I may be way off based here on their price (only seen pictures) - haven't done any research.

Looks like Maximas can be up to 35ish, Avalons can be up to 40 depending on package.

Will, I am female, drive an Expedition that my son will inherit when he gets his license this summer. It's my turn for a new car ... it's a 2003.
I too want another SUV. For me it's a matter of being higher and not feeling like I'll get run over in a car. Our dilema is whether to get a 7/8 passenger or a 5 passenger vehicle.

I believe around 138K. If it were up to me, I'd run it till the wheels fall off.
But, as good as I am with negotiating, I don't have any leverage with her.

Nope. But you're gonna hafta go through these stages. And they won't be easy. My first marriage ended after 17 years of putting up with her crap. Hope you end up better.
