@ajcsportseditor: Reports suggest Alabama's Kirby Smart has taking defensive coordinator job with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Good hire?

Don't think I'd buy it yet. Not sure why the AJC would break it first, and a tweet saying "reports suggest" isn't exactly rock solid info.

Yea good hire. He needs to cut his teeth more at a place outside Bama before we line up his return as HC.

Wow if true. Seems like a bit of a stretch for the Eagles, but I am interested to see how Kirby does on his own.

If it were between Smart and Grantham as reports suggested, I'd take Smart every time if I were Kelly.

Jox just said the Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting it, too. Congrats to Kirby if true.

He definitely needs to cut his teeth on his own. I think he was hoping to make a jump from DC to HC but Nick Saban's shadow is pretty big for a young DC to make that jump.

Also, there's less risk in taking an NFL gig because he can fail and return to the college game relatively easily.

I heard this discussed as a possibility yesterday, so I don't think the AJC actually "broke it."

Had any team ever made this work?

Well, all their players come from college. Why not the coaches too?

Why not bring in Saban's understudy? No one questions Saban's football smarts.

I guess all of Kelley's connections are on the collegiate level, but it seems risky to bring mostly college coaches to run an NFL team.

Could turn out to be brilliant or could blow up quickly.

Should be fun to watch.

So sure the new coaches would be great for rookies but the old school vets are gonna have trouble trusting some college head coach hotshot not named jim harbough

If this is in fact true, Jeremy Pruit looks like an idiot... he could've been handed the reins to something awesome... instead, he'll be on his own in Tallahassee trying to copy something and failing miserably.
