| 120 mm Quiet Case Fan Rec's (Posted on 1/16/13 at 10:58 am)
My case is going on year 4 or 5 and the front fan is a bit too loud for my liking. Any recs on a good quiet fan i can replace the front and back 120 mm fans with? Also looking to put a quieter fan on my CM 212. Dont care about led's, but if they have them lets make them blue. So i need: 2 X 120mm 3 pin case fans 1 X 120mm 4 pin cpu cooler fan any ideas?

noctua nf-p12 for the heatsink and nf-s12b for case fans. LINK I'm starting to become sensitive to the noise produced by the 10 dollar 140mm coolermaster case fans that I have now.

Scythe Gentle Typhoons. Double ball bearings. They are about $20, maybe less on ebay. Well worth it. I have five of them on my radiators and the pump is louder than the fans, and the fans push a ton of air. /thread, and I have data to back it up - LINK

when i get home ill post a pic of the enclosure the current fans are in and maybe we can determine which fans would be compatible (tool-less design pop in box). i also need to figure out if the majority of the noise is coming from the front fan or the video card

Video card fans are almost always the loudest little frickers in a PC.

yeah i have tried just adjusting the fan speed via CCC, and i can def hear it when i crank the fan up but am still unable to determine if its the main culprit or not. ill have to just go in and disable my case fans and button the tower back up and see what she sounds like

Yup. When my PC is sitting there idle you can't here it. When I start gaming, you can here the video card fan spool up.

My GPU idles with 21% fan speed. The highest I've ever seen it is 26%. It only starts to go up at around 70C. So I'm pretty lucky that it stays as cool as it does with the overclock I have on it. My front case fan is sounds like a train though. 15 dollar thermaltake 120mm fricking sucks. I'm about to buy several of the Antec true quiets though.

Funny. I've been thinking about getting a new case and new fans. My current case is a mid tower and space isn't an issue so I'm toying with getting a full tower case and replacing the stock fans with better ones.

the true quiets sound like they're pretty silent, but I will wait to see how they hold up over time. Also, will wait for a 140mm model

You mean like this ? It's not the pro though. You can get the 120's with LED's now to.

I got 7 of them (140mm) inside my cases and can't hear them. Got my ear next to my case right now and yep, can't hear em.

turns out the majority of the noise is coming from the fan on the CM 212. which is disappointing since it was supposed to run at 13dba.

Thats weird, Ive got the 212 plus and I haven't noticed the fan at all. As I stated previously though, I do have the sound equivalent of a jet engine on the front of my case.
