I know there are several crawfish threads, but I couldn't find this specific information. I am looking to purchase a pot and burner for a small (15-20) gathering of people. I also dont need the fanciest buner unless neccesary. I plan to make it an all day event just eating delicious mudbugs and getting drunk. What are your recommendations regarding brand, size, etc.

Pot size (in quarts) X .6 = number of pounds of crawfish the pot can cook in one batch

There's also this:

So you are planning on boiling crawfish once and only once in your lifetime? That being the case buy the cheapest shite on the market so as to not dent your wallet.

Buy an 80 quart pot or bigger. Get a single jet burner.

I got a cheap burner and a 60 quart pot from academy last year. Make sure the pot comes with a cage inside. For 15-20 people, I would go with an 80 quart pot. You could boil a whole sack at a time in that case.

Get a single jet burner and the biggest pot you can afford, 120 is what I have.... with a basket as mentioned.

You looking at about $150

The ice stops the cooking and allows a longer soak without overcooking.

Will try that next time. Thanks! My sister in law bought me a new pot for Christmas. I am getting impatient waiting to use it.

If he is only doing this once he could get a 60qt pot and save some money. A sack is only about 35 lbs at max. So, unless he plans on putting all kind of stuff in his boil beyond new potatoes and corn he will be fine with 60 quarts.

Instead of ice freeze some 2 liter bottle of water and put that In the pot at the end instead of diluting your seasoning with ice

A sack doesn't fit in a 60 and if he's only doing it once he should borrow one from somebody.

I just put the whole bag in

It will usually stay intact if you don't stir it around too much

Sometimes I just hose the outside of the pot

Fwiw I don't plan on doing it just once what I meant by not needing the fanciest burner is if i can get away with an entry or moderate level burner instead one that has all these crazy bells and whistles than why not? If I need the bells and whistles than I will get them. All I'm trying to do is find what name brand is consistent with a quality product that will last me a good amount of time
