test drove both yesterday and curious what everyones thoughts are?

pilot had more room but its also a little boxier and old school looking. another thing is they are completely redesigning it for 2014. The explorer has the better entertainment system and Nav but is also more $$$.

Fully loaded Pilot was 38k and explorer was 42k.

thoughts?

Pilot will definitely have a better resale value. Who needs a navigation when you have google maps? I'd get the Pilot.

yeah we liked the pilot too. one thing i didnt care too much for is for 2013 they moved the shift to the middle below the radio and it looks weird as hell. also their are a shite ton of buttons and it looks too busy.

would the fact that its getting a complete redesign bother you for next year? thanks

just traded my wife's 2011 explorer. it left her in baton rouge because of a fan motor relay. she never got over it.

The redesign wouldn't impact my buying decision unless there was some feature you really wanted. A car is a depreciating asset and neither model year is going to offset that.

I personally wouldn't buy the first model year of any significant redesign so they can work any bugs out.

I have an Explorer and love it. Rides nice and feels solid. Is sticker price 42? Because ford sells volume you can get a nice discount. I have not dealt with honda in years, but my experience with them is they are not willing to deal, or they feel their car is superior so they stick near the sticker price.

Go with a Honda made car, you'll be happy. I made the mistake of getting a chevy. Never again.

My wife has been driving a Pilot for about 6 years now. This was the first one she had for about a year:

A wreck in the oncoming lane and a car came across the median and she t-boned it at 65mph and rolled it a few times. after she walked away from that with only a bruised knee, that's all she will drive now.

Besides safety, the interior feels like an old accord I drove and feels great.

I drove an old Explorer for a while. I liked it mainly b/c I used it like it was supposed to be used with outdoor activities. I'm sure the Pilot may be OK for that, but the Explorer felt more suitable.

The wife drives an Expedition that is 3 yrs old and has 36k miles on it. I went a couple months ago to see about trading it in for a new 4x4 expedition( we moved to Colorado). The dealer here offered me $21k for it. I paid $47k for it new. I'll never buy another one. Resell is poop on em.

Get the Pilot.

We just bought an explorer xlt

At the time, Robinson bros in Baton Rouge was offering 6k off the sticker on all explorers

I could not find a better deal online or anywhere locally

We are very happy with it so far

The xlts come very nicely equipped, and this one was only stickered at 37

Pilot.

That 6 cyl engine (250hp?) and AWD is money. My daughter has one and loves it. Got the same engine in my Ridgeline with 185k mi and zero probs. Get 80k mi on the tires.

maniac, i hear ya. we are looking to buy in spring/summer so by that time i will get to see how customers like them. the dealer is right by my house and i have a good relationship with them.

i have an Altima and my wife had a Murano, both loved ours and never put a wrench to them.

ive heard nothing but good things about the pathfinder and it gets the best gas mileage in its class. like i said another 4-6 months will give me a better idea on how they are holding up
