It's peak season right now. Any reputable restaurant or retailer should have quality oysters. My last dozen was at Casamentos a couple weeks ago and was excellent.

Casamentos

Really the best and by a wide margin.

True, but this time of year (as alluded to above) it's pretty damn hard to go wrong just about anywhere. I too had some at Cooter Brown's the other day (a place I may normally be a bit wary of), and they were absolutely fantastic.

all this talk of Casamentos had me eating there in my dreams all last night. Might have to stop in and grab a dozen on my way home, although I know that will lead to gumbo and fried oyster platter too.

Stopped in at the newly reopened Felix's last week in the FQ and they ran out by 5pm. WTF?

Sounds like they still have money issues. Still no booze?

Bozos if you want raw or fried

Cassementos if you want fried

Dragos if you want charbroiled

I'm an oyster traditionalist and really don't like Cassementos raw. I think they use the Ameripure oysters and they never have a good salty taste to them. Now if you're slobbering em down with horseradish, hot sauce, etc. it's not a big deal, but I take my oysters with just a pinch of lemon juice.

Only drawback to Bozos is the service, the last few times I've been there it's been horrendous.

Bozo's is terrible. The last time I was a Casementos, a few weeks ago, the oyster were almost too salty.

I'll have to give them another chance.....I generally get raw anyway when I go in there, but always think they don't even have a slight salty taste to them.

Why don't you like Bozos? I find the fried seafood to be some of the best.....it's just lately the service is bad.

Not sure if yall will agree with me on this, but I think one of the worst oyster places is Acme. My quick scorecard on them:
Raw - Never had them there, so I can't comment
Charbroiled - Very mediocre, not even close to Dragos
Fried - Absolutely terrible, seems like they are always tiny and I'm not a huge fan of their batter.

Not the same since it changed owners. Service sucks and the prices have gone up while it seems the portions have gotten smaller. I can understand prices going up but it just feels like a rip off now. Last time I went was with a group of 5 and it took about an hour for all of us to get our dozen raw oyster we ordered. One person would get a dozen then 15-20 min later another dozen would come out. My parents still go there.

You would think the new owners would see the problem and do something to fix things. That place used to be packed on Friday and Saturday nights. The last time I was in there on a Friday night there may have been two other tables occupied.

They got their liquor license and had a full bar and the new owners remodeled, sounds more like they underestimated the crowd they would have and how much to order during their first few days back open.
