MSG---Does it bother you?

I really don't care for this stuff. I can generally tell if I eat something that contains it. It just makes me feel weird and gives me a headache.
What do you think of this flavor enhancer?

No. I use Sazon Goya, essentially seasoned MSG, when making tacos

Thankfully, no, but I don't use it in my own cooking.

MSG is just one of many things that should be taken in in small amounts, imo. The food we eat should be as close to the natural state as possible, and shouldn't include things like MSG, aspartame, HFCS, etc etc.
That being said, my aspartame and other artifical sweetener intake is particularly awful so I can't say much..

I love MSG. It's essentially the flavors you get from steak, mushrooms, soy sauce or tomatoes to some extent. And I don't believe the headache BS.

It gives me headaches too, I discovered it was in the taco seasoning I use as well as other products, not good at all.

For those of you who use msg, how is it used?
Do you use it in place of salt?
Do you sprinkle it at the end?
School me

I've never used it on its own. It is often an ingredient in seasoning blends. I've never purposely chosen to use MSG, but if it's an ingredient in seasoning or a sauce packet, it doesn't give me a headache. I try to use things that don't include it.
Remember Adolf's Meat Tenderizer? That was simply MSG and salt, I think.

Ah ok. But I assume some people use it outside of seasoning blends, right?

I think you're confusing that with Accent. Adolph's has fruit enzymes that break down meat tissue.

I think you're right. It was probably Accent.

I don't try to use it at all, I avoid it because of the headaches and yucky stomach it causes. I have recently noticed it is on the ingredient list of a lot of products that I've used. So now I read carefully.
I use a pinapple enzyme to add to wet marinades sometimes, its MSG and salt free ( don't remember the product name)

You can use it anytime, but it should be blended in, not just sprinkled on top. Its flavor is called "umami" or "savory" and to me, it makes jambalaya taste more like jambalaya, gumbo more like gumbo and veggies more like veggies. It helps bring out flavor in a similar way as salt does, but it doesn't taste salty.
