Looking to buy a bottle of scotch for a relative. What's a good bottle that's easy to find for under $50?

If that's your price range, your better off buying them bourbon.

ETA: If the family member prefers scotch over bourbon, the best I can think of in that range is Glenlivet (12 year).

Cardhu is about $40. I think it's great for the price.

The Macallan 10 is a good single malt in that range. Or Johnny Walker Gold or Green if you're looking for a blend.

Dalwhinnie is right about $50 a bottle and it is nice. The Missus got me a bottle last Christmas. Sadly, I made the mistake of bringing it out during Spanish Town Mardi Gras and some freeloaders polished it off

Balvenie Doublewood 12 year. Usually around $60. Just $10 extra.

This and Glenfiddich 15 year Solera are both great near that price range. Also, sometimes a little harder to find, but Aberlour 12 year is a really good one near that range.

This and their Caribbean Cask are the two options I'm mulling for my next purchase. Either way I think I'll be happy

Very good scotch as well. The coconut and vanilla come through well. I went to one of their sponsored tastings here a couple years ago and it was funny to hear them talk about it. He said they bought a bunch of Carribean rum and put it in their barrels for a while then threw the crap out behind the barn

I cracked a bottle of this open last night. I am more of a bourbon guy, but I must admit this stuff was SMOOTH. Have no idea on the price, it was a gift from my father-in-law.
