According to HC Ron Rivera, as told to Albert Breer, Cam has gotten a bit of a bad rep

Rivera makes some good points, specifically about Cam maturing under scrutiny and having to learn not to carry the load by his self. Pretty well-written and insightful article

When Cam Newton stops doing those ridiculous Superman celebrations, like he is some god, even when down multiple touchdowns, then I might like him. Until then, take a cue from the classy QB's such as Manning, Brady, and Brees. Don't showboat when you score or throw a touchdown. A single fist pump is allowed, but nothing more.
BTW, I lump Rodgers in with Newton for that ridiculous belt maneuver he makes when he scores a rushing TD. Show some class, guys. Act like you have done this before.

I don't mind when he gives his own TD balls to the fans. It pisses me off when he takes a teammates TD ball, and gives it to the fans.

I don't have a problem with him. I like him. He is a phenom. He just wants to win. Isn't that why you play the game? Besides, it is Rivera who should be scrutinized, not Cam.
