| Katy, TX Area - Food Info? (Posted on 12/5/12 at 8:09 pm)
Looks like an old Tiger is headin' west. Anyone familiar with the area with restaurant, supermarket, specialty store, etc recommendations (or conversely with those to avoid)? TIA.

Good time. We recently had quite a few places open up. All the chains are now represented. And if "mom and pop" Mexican places interest you then Katy is chok full. Got a Perry's steakhouse too which is about it for high dollar places. Look up La Cantera. It is a collection of shops and restaurants that is recently expanding. Katy is not the woodlands or Sugarland for food but it is catching up.

Find yourself an HEB grocery store. Especially if it's brand new. Best grocery store ever

Katy is a great suburb thats got everything you need within 10 minutes but you are also 20-30 minutes from anything you need in Houston from the Galleria and pro sports(no traffic of course) my cousin lives in Katy and they love the schools. it has about every chain you can imagine plus some mini chains that i love - pappadeaux, pappasitos, los cucos mexican. also have some upscale shopping in La Centerra at Cinco Ranch and you have the Katy Mills Mall. Another tip is that they are about to open a Top Golf in Katy off I10, we have them in Dallas and its the tits. about 100 bays of an outdoor covered driving range with full bar and food and hot women. all their golf balls have chips in them and when you hit them you aim at targets and play a game. its a great time with buddies to just kick back and get drunk and not have to worry about hitting a good shot good luck, you will like it.

There are some good places to hit up in the area. HEB is probably the best store, but we do have a Whole Foods opening soon. For restaurants it can be hit or miss. Lupe Tortilla and Alicia's are probably the best mexican food in the area. Perrys is really good. Two of our favorites that we hit up all the time are: Marini's Empanada House Really good! Family run business, always clean and the owner is really nice. I've had just about every one on the menu and they are all good. I like it too because he keeps a good craft beer selection in bottles in stock. Dekkers Mesquite Grille Really good food, can be a little pricey, but I don't mind paying. Owner is always there. One of the best steaks I've had, also enjoy the grilled salmon (and I'm not a big salmon fan). Great outside area with a great fire pit. Also make sure to visit No Label Brewery DAMN good beer!

Ray's Grill in Fulshear. Worth the short drive west.

Thanks fellas for all the suggestions. I saw a bunch of Salt Grass steakhouses (local chain?). Are these worth trying? How would they compare to say Outback? Any good seafood markets nearby Katy?

the HEB there is a great grocery store. i wish we had one here, actually. and im spoiled in lafayette with rouse's and a bunch of meat markets. perrys is an awesome steak house for the price. but thats for a fancy smancy type night. i recall the rest of the food places being chains that we went to. i seem to recall a panera bread, but i havent been in Katy much for years.

It's a Landry's owned chain. Almost all of your top notch locally owned places are going to be "inside the loop", aka 610.
