Why do you think that Miles has such great success against Alabama and Saban?

Since Miles has been at LSU (2005), we are 5-3 against Alabama, including the loss in the 2012 BCS game. Since Saban arrived at Alabama, Miles is 3-3 against him, including winning 2 out of the last 3 games against him. These 2 out of 3 wins in the last 3 games were played while Saban is "in his prime and the best coach in the NCAA" according to most pundits.

My question to all of you - why do you think Miles has such great success against Alabama and Saban when other coaches have failed?

Miles only wins because of Saban's recruits

He has recruited like a madman, and our level of athletes is at the top of college football.

Top to bottom, nobody matches up with Bama athlete-wise like LSU right now.

Because the plan to beat Alabama is simple, be succesful running the ball and keep their defense on the field.

This is type of team that Miles wants because it's capable of beating Alabama

at least for now, LSU and Miles is the only SEC team not afraid of Alabama and Saban.

Against Saban, I think Miles wins mostly on quirky things (either planned or not), and the unexpected happens - when he somehow gets inside Saban's very orderly head and pokes a stick around inside there...

So this Saturday night, I'm pulling for Quirk to happen.

I think crowton matched up well with sabans defense. Obviously chavis' defense can stop Bama. Last year without Crowton, i think we got lucky. The offense did nothing and bama missed 5 fgs and had an incredible play made by eric reid keeping them from winning

He just knows how to prepare his team for playing them (except 01/09), which frankly was probably as challenging a spot for a coach to be in. This isn't the NFL, teams don't play muliple times in a year and convincing a bunch of 18-22 yr olds that they had to beat a very good Bama team again was like talking to a brick wall.

I actually think Miles is the only coach that Saban "fears" and when I say that, I mean it out of respect. I think he knows that Miles can beat him and that causes him to get tight (and his team) during this week. Miles is just cookoo enough to throw Saban off his game a bit. My 2 cents. I truly don't believe Saban thinks that about ANY other coach in college football.

Miles lives for this shite. He is Bo and Bo had Woody. This is his Mich vs Ohio St and he absolutely lives for it.

Because Miles and LSU is the only program in the SEC that expects to beat Bama.

We were an equally talented team in 2010 that had to play a near perfect game to win.

In 2011 we were equally talented and we made less mistakes and won.

In 2012, we were an equally talented team and were arse raped and left in the ditch.

It's because CLM knows how much it means to us the fans to beat Saban! He knows that is one of the two ultimate measuring sticks to his success! Beat Bama and win championships!

Bama is generally a good matchup for Mile's LSU teams. Both coaches want to run the ball and stop the run. The team that does so usually wins.

Miles also has a gift for getting his team prepared for the big game (with one glaring exception). I expect him to be a bit more motivated to motivate this week.

I like these responses. I also think that Miles has unpredictability in big games. Saban hates the unpredictable because he has a hard time preparing for it. It messes up his pretty hair.

The one exception to Miles' unpredictability - the national championship game. I can't explain and I never will understand it; however, I think Miles gets a pass in that game (pardon the pun) based upon his past level of success on the big stage. For some unknown reason, I have more confidence in this game than in past games and it is because we have Les Miles on the sidelines. That is our edge.

Honestly I think there are a few reasons.

first and foremost, he is one of the few coaches in the country that has the talent to compete with what saban has put together.

Secondly, nick saban is a brilliant defensive mind. Coaches that make logical play calls are going to get stuffed, because nick saban sees a logical play call from a mile away, hence him owning bobby petrino.

Guys that make calls by thinking outside of the box and going against what makes the most sense will always have the most success against saban, miles and spurrier are the 2 that really fit that mold. If the "mad hatter" is coaching saturday it's going to be a dogfight, if les miles shows up alabama may run away with it

3-3 isn't great success. That means he wins 50% of the time.

I think any coach in the country would take 3-3 versus Saban and Bama over the span. Does anyone have a winning record versus Saban over that time period? If they do, they didn't play them 6 times.
