Somewhere on the W or SW side of downtown. The Heights is pretty trendy. Kind of depends on your opinion of good food, drink and nightlife.

Rice, Upper Kirby/River Oaks, West U, The Heights, Rice Military, Montrose is full of gays and hipsters, but some of the best food is located there...Washington Ave if you're into AZNs and schmedium graphic-ts.

Heights, Midtown, Washington Ave. If you looking for a place to watch the game Big Woodrows is great for game day.

Galleria is upscale if you want some trendy type of nightlife. Midtown and Rice Village is where normal people actually hang out. Washington Ave is hit or miss on the douche factor. Montrose isn't exclusively gay bars either. Midtown is best area for barhopping. Unless it's a dance club there won't be a cover. Shot Bar and Wunderbar are really the only places in Midtown I know of that enforce a dress code like no sneakers, jerseys, shorts etc... Komodo's, Front Porch, Little Woodrow, Doghouse Tavern, Maple Leaf, Saint Danes and Bar Munich are all decent relaxed places to hang out.

Thanks, all. Ended up using Hilton points and staying at the Hilton Post Oak. And, I've been to Woodrow's on a game day. Whew.

Only if you're involved Big Woodrows used to have a good po-boy but I don't care for the food at all any more so I skip that place if I'm in Houston. I will go to Little Woodrows in Midtown or The Village, but those are actually decent bars.

I stayed at the Four Seasons by the convention center. Highly recommend that place. There is also a Hilton right there too.

Downtown is a bit of ghosttown once working hours are over except for a small strip on Main and over by the new Dynamo Stadium. Granted it's not far from midtown and the Four Seasons and that Hilton are the closest nice hotels to Midtown. Cab ride would be barely $5 as it's only a mile or 2 away.
