A pump, so you can pump the gun and scare away whoever you are trying to defend against

This.

Pretty much an unmistakable sound that would cause an instinctive backpedal.

I just have an old Mossberg 20 gauge.

What is a good home defense shell? Or is it just
00 Buck???

I kind of like #2 or 4 over 00. Less wall penetration and if you have ever seen something shot with that at close range you know it does plenty of damage.

Most of my LE friends actually like #4 Buckshot instead of 00. Get 27 pellets about the size of a 22 cal instead of just 9 pellets a little larger.

If you are on a budget you can get a used 870 at any pawn shop for cheap. Good gun and will go bang everytime you pull the trigger.

Can't open them on my phone, but any 870 will do. All the accessories and stuff are a matter of preference. 20 gauge will do the trick too.

I always recommend 00 buck bc that's what I use in deer and I Know it is badass. #2 or so will definitely stop a bitch too.

I use this. It did nasty things to a watermelon at 10, 15 & 20 yards

Any pump shotgun. If close enough it will not matter the shot size, where ever you hit them at they will go down.

I bought one of these from Gmshooter. Kicks like a mule but is badass in all other aspects.

+1

I have one with a standard magazine tube (4 rounds) and I feel very comfortable with it.

Suggested home defense loads:

00 Buck 3" Magnum (as mentioned)
#1 Buck
Winchester PXD1 (2 3/4" shell, so velocity is a bit lower; but recoil is also lower and muzzle energy is devastating)
