Downs starting means we are stacked at DT (again).

But doesn't it also mean that the Freak hasn't really emerged as the dominant force his high school hype predicted. Nothing against him.

Just not THAT guy yet.

Downs has played great when he is healthy enough to play. "Starter" is just a name though. I'll be willing to bet that Freak gets more snaps.

This. No other team in the country can match LSU's depth chart at DT position.

btw, look for Downs to have a great year. The guy is a great ambassador for LSU and has worked his arse off for a starting position.

They are all going to play and probably equal amounts. Whoever goes in for the first snap means nothing.

Hasn't Downs been with the 1's all practice?

Strange. I never considered Downs to be better than our 4th best DT at any point in his career.

Jefferson passed the pictures down to Downs. Seriously, Downs can be a really good player if he stays healthy.

No surpise at all.
SOme of you people get all mancrushed up over certian players, just bc of where/how they came about on the recruting trail.

He's an effort guy though. As is Logan. They're going to give max effort every snap they're out there. Don't discount this as both a reward for Downs' effort over his whole career and also a motivational tool for Ego and Freak.

Downs was a disruptive force his freshman year before he became serially injured. If he is healthy again, I don't find the depth chart to be that surprising.

In contrast, Muncie at starting LB makes me want to weep a little.

Not necessarily. Kendrick Adams was the starter. The majority of PT in big spots went to Mingo.
