LOL. Not suprisingly, this is literally the exact same thing people used to say about JJ. Incredible clandestine practice performances.

More to the point, T. Jones was obviously ahead of Muncie and would be the starter if not for eligibility issues. So Muncie being in the starting lineup cannot be construed as a positive development.

Strange. I never considered Downs to be better than our 4th best DT at any point in his career.

He showed flashes of greatness early in his career

Sounds like he has finally turned the corner

Wouldn't be shocked if he has an all American type of season

This is what I hate about our fan base. For some reason our fans pull for the name on the BACK of the jersey and if they aren't starting , the fans run down the starter. It happened with JJ/lee and is happening now. I don't have to choose one player or the other, THEY BOTH PLAY FOR LSU.

Not to be THAT GUY, but I think you meant Ken "Adams". Ol' Kendrick Allen from Bogalusa was out of eligibility about 12 years ago

I sure did. I did NOT mean the guy who covered the deepest zone blitz in the history of LSU football against Illinois in the 2001 season's sugar bowl.

Not bad. Downs isn't really a bad player at all, just injury prone.

Ego and Freak will be rotated a lot. I don't see why people get hung up on "Downs as starter". You should just consider 2-deep starters on our dline...

But doesn't it also mean that the Freak hasn't really emerged as the dominant force his high school hype predicted. Nothing against him.

the way the tackles rotate, it may be more of a tandem move, Logan / Downs and Ego / Freak may be the best combo's.

Just not THAT guy yet.

No...it means that downs was good enough to play as a true freshman and probably played better than freak did his freshman year.....downs is a good dt, he just can't stay healthy.....I hope this year, for his sake, that he can. He's got a motor on him as well. Doesn't matter who starts, will be lot of rotating...lsu is just loaded at DT.

Downs could follow in the footsteps of drake Nevis. 3 subpar seasons followed by a huge senior year.

It happened with JJ and JL because most people knew JL gave us a better offense...and he proved that......for most people, it had nothing to do with color or the name....simply the output.

btw, look for Downs to have a great year. The guy is a great ambassador for LSU and has worked his arse off for a starting position.

Agree 100% Josh works hard and is a great team player. The fact he is starting isn't a surprise to me.

Downs over Freak and Ego is straight retarded.
I've heard Mills has been very impressive and Collins has been hurt,so no big surprise there

That's a good point. I remember against Bama in Nov. TR's biggest rushing gain came on a play that had Downs and Ego as the two DTs together. I don't think that particular combo made the field again. They got paired up with other guys.
