the only competent thing he did was bail out when the mad king was self destructing. That and sending Tyrion to hold KL before Blackwater.

I suppose he also played a role in the Freys putting on the red wedding as well.

You don't know much about Tywin Lannister then. His house was in absolute shite when he inherited it, and then grew it to the most powerful house in all the Seven Kingdoms. Almost all of that was Tywin's doing. He being a terrible father however will be the absolute undoing of his house.

no real specifics there. he failed as hand and his kids are in the midst of having the shortest rein in Westeros history. No real info on how he started shitting gold.

Aerys's reign was a success until Tywin left his position as hand. They had a lasting peace and everyone in the realm knew it was due to Tywin.

How did he fail? Seems that pretty much the entire time he was Hand things went well for the Kingdoms and the Lannisters.

It all went to shite when his reason and intellect bailed out of King's Landing. He saw the writing on the wall.

Yep, honestly he could see that with Cersei when Robert died. I think he was absolutely appauled by the stupid decisions she and her son made, like killing Ned (not Cersei's idea, but you can guarantee Joffrey wouldn't have been able to go through with it if Tywin was there), giving scumbag brownnoser Janos Slynt the largest fortress in Westeros, and dismissing the most beloved knight in all of Westeros who could help any of the rouge kings in favor of a rabid dog. That was just a taste of what would come when Tywin didn't have at least someone standing in Cersei's way of absolute power, even if it meant giving it to the person Tywin Lannister despised most in Tyrion Lannister.

Sorry, but the theory is complete bullshite. Tywin was Hand of the King for another 8 years after Tyrion was born. If Tywin left right before or soon after Tyrion was born, then you may have a case. But no, the theory is complete bullshite and insulting from things directly told to us and hinted. No way Tyrion is Aerys' son. There are too many of those floating around right now anyway.

This theory is insulting? Stupid, sure. Retarded? hmmm maybe. Crackpot? Absolutley. But Holy shite. Insulting.

That speaks volumes. I hate to break it to you, man, but I hear Martin's gonna kill off Misery in "Winds".

That dirty bird.

No, jk. I didn't mean to cause you so much butthurt. He's a Lannister! He's a Lannister!

ETA: Whoops, I should say:
Tyrion is Tywin's son!!

So, who do you guys think takes over as regent now that Kevan is gone? I'm assuming Varys will have some control over that and he wants someone fairly incompetent in there.

(sorry if this has been discussed already, i'm slowly rereading the entire thread.)

Good question - off top of my head I'd like to think Margery. Lannister pickings are slim, but who of them remaining could stave off the Highgarden power play? I would imagine Varys would like to see Lancel, and the Faith would support him, too

Great topic - so much potential for madness to enuse.

Expect the current small council to make Mace Tyrell the regent and Randyll Tarly the the King's Hand. Those two are the major players at present.

But I expect Cercei to make another move for the regency and utlimately push Houses Lannister and Highgarden to war.

Remember: The only White Swords left are Trant, Blount and Robert Strong. Advantage - Cercei.

You would think that if Mace Tyrell is made regent and Tarly is made hand that Dorne would go bananas. Maybe that's what Varys wants though. That makes the Martells and Lannisters unhappy.

Have we even seen Dorne's reaction to Tyrell being the hand yet? The last time we were in Dorne was during the Areo Hotah POV iirc. So it's been a while. I guess Varys could be trying to give Dorne little choice but to join up with the Golden Company.

Good point about Dorne. They are gonna be piiiisssed. But then, they already are.

The Dorne Conspiracy (get it?):
- Obara is after Darkstar
- Nymeria is headed for the King's Small Council
- Tyne is to be a septa in King's Landing
- Arianne is making her way to Aegon
- The Sphinx is in Old Town

Dorne is getting into position. The Lannisters will be the targets. The question is, will Highgarden join them or oppose them?

Dorne and Highgarden will never unite. They will fight to the death and it will be the undoing of both houses

It will be interesting to see what they do as far as declaring for Aegon. One of them will rush to his side. I think the Tyrell's will hesitate because they have cast their lot with the Lannisters, and that it will ultimately spell their doom. Though I do have faith in the Queen of Thorns.

There is certainly no love between Dorne and Highgarden. But both houses have a history of loyalty to the Targaryens.

Dorne will try to unite with Aegon.

Highgarden will only stay loyal to Baratheon (aka Lannister) as long as Margery will be queen. Once Tommen loses the throne, Highgarden will join the Dorne/Aegon alliance.

By that time, I expect Cercei will have given Highgarden plenty of reasons to go to war.

You think so? You don't think they'd roll with Rhaegar's sister instead like they've tried to do?
