I think Dayne and company may represent a completely different faction of people seeking power altogether. Doesnt make sense for them to be so conveniently absent. Thanks for entertaining my crackpot theory.

Im not sure how the Maesters are involved but I gotta believe they are anti-Targ all the way. More magic abounding leads to decrease of their influence via backwoods science. I think Varys is part of their agenda also.

Well, we know for a fact where they were and that they were killed. I'm just assuming that he assumed that Rhaegar would take the King's Guard with him everywhere, but instead he told 3 of them to remain behind. I'm pretty confident that Aerys would not do that for Rhaegar's bastard child. I don't think he knew about the missing members of the King's Guard until The Battle of the Trident, and Ned himself was confused why they were not at any strategic battleground.

Your theories make no sense. The maesters take no direct part in the war and are merely advisors to any person who overtakes their castle. Sure there are some corrupt ones, but the order as a whole isn't.

Ok people, my Daenerys Targaryen costume is finished. Company costume contest is tomorrow, and so far 2 of the 15 ppl I told actually know what game of thrones is. But i will post pics tomorrow for my fellow GOT nerds and hopefully I will serve dany well. Peace be with you, winter is coming.

If Varys is anti Targaryen then why is he trying to put a Targaryen on the throne? Even if he isn't a true Targ he orchestrated for him to meet up with Dany so I have a hard time believing that Varys doesn't want the Targs back in power.

Maester Marwin seemed convinced that the other maesters are united against magic and are planning something. It was laid out in the last two books that the maesters have some sort of agenda other than serving.

The theory is that Varys is a Blackfyre and he either
1. Figured uniting the Targs and the Blackfyres would be good for the realm. "Aegon" can marry Dany and everything would be hunky dory.
2. The Dothraki would eventually kill Visc and Dany, leaving only the Blackfyres.
