My top two favorites so far. I also think Chris Knight's new CD is solid. I thought Bingham's "Tomorrowland" was so, so disappointing.

Updated top ten:

1. Animal Collective- Centipede Hz
2. Cloud Nothings- Attack on Memory
3. Beach House- Bloom
4. The Tallest Man on Earth- There's No Leaving Now
5. Twin Shadow- Confess
6. Japandroids- Celebration Rock
7. Wild Nothing- Nocturne
8. Grizzly Bear- Shields
9. Dirty Projectors- Swing Lo Magellan
10. Purity Ring- Shrines

Dinosaur Jr. is close, but needs a few more listens.

Titus Andronicus later this month is basically a top ten lock and I will be surprised and disappointed if it isn't at least top 3. AC Newman and Tame Impala may shake things up as well.

then he'd be surprised and disappointed. Especially after hearing the first single, which is pretty great.

For me, this year is Cloud Nothing's Attack on Memory and then everything else. It is so far and away my favorite album this year, it is staggering. Nothing else is even on the radar. I feel it has lapped the field, so far.

The only one on your list I strongly disagree with is Dirty Projectors. I thought that album was somewhere between bad and quite bad.

I listened to "Night Visions" on account of its inclusion in your list and one other person's as well. I really dig it.

I'm putting them in tiers:

Passion Pit -- Gossamer
Edward Sharpe & Magnetic Zeros -- Here
Metric -- Synthetic
Fun. -- Some Nights
--------------------
Imagine Dragons -- Night Visions [I've only listened to it once. Liked it a lot, but need another listen or two before I decide if it's ready for my top tier]
-----------
Santigold -- Master of my make believe
Beach House -- Bloom
Japandroids -- Celebration Rock
DIIV -- Oshin
Bloc Party -- Four
Animal Collective -- Centipede HZ
-------------
B.o.B -- Strange Clouds
John Mayer -- born and raised
Jack White -- Blunderbuss
The Shins -- Port of Morrow
Cloud Nothings -- Attack on Memory
Tanlines -- Mixed Emotions

Next in Queue:
Lumineers
Killers
Divine Fits
Two Door Cinema
Grizzly Bear
I'll take suggestions from the crowd. Anybody?

Recent albums I wasn't feeling:
Purity Ring (I gave this two listens...wasn't hitting me)
Dirty Projectors (I might could give this one more listen)
Kimbra (got recommended by a female friend who usually gives me good muzak recommendations -- put me onto Passion Pit back in the day, and god bless her for that* -- but I just wasn't feeling it).

2012 "just okay" albums:
Dr. Dog
Chromatics
Walkmen
Temper Trap
Killer Mike [might could listen again]

_______________
*Though it would have been much better if she would have put me onto Passion Pit and also had sex with me. Really hot girl. And, yes, I tried. Was denied. It happens. I don't like getting friendzoned by females any more than you do, but it is okay so long as you actually made an attempt. If you made an attempt and then failed -- and you got the feeling that persistence might not pay off -- then just go ahead and preemptively friendzone them if they're cool. But if they friendzoned you before you even made an attempt...well, that's just weak. Why didn't you make an attempt, dude? Just try to stick your tongue down her mouth. Worst she can say is no.

Ty Segall's "Twins" is freaking awesome.

This is his third album in 2012 and he just keeps out doing himself.

That review made me hard. Love this section:

quote:

So maybe it’s best to think of Local Business as the Jackie Brown to The Monitor‘s Pulp Fiction: The quietly powerful follow-up to the attention-grabbing watershed, the one that proves its makers are grown-ups in it for the long haul. And, I mean, have you watched Jackie Brown lately? That movie fricking rules. It holds up, years after the context has faded.
