Me and the lady friend are spending the weekend in Downtown Houston, about a block from Minute Maid, next weekend. Friday-Sunday and going to the 311 concert Sunday night in the Woodlands. We really want some good BBQ and Messican. Doesn't need to be specific to DT Houston or Woodlands but preferable.
My BBQ research came up a little empty and for Mexican I keep seeing Chuy's and Hugo's.
Also what else would be some great places to check out to eat? We love everything. Probably no sushi since we eat that all the time and can get it here. Looking for something unique.
Thank guys

Original Ninfa's on Navigation is great Tex Mex. Is just east of downtown.
El Tiempo is also very good.
Since you're downtown, make sure to hit up La Carafe. It's the oldest building in Houston. Very dim lit, romantic, etc... Only beer and wine though.
BBQ in Houston is actually pretty lacking. Gatlin's is the best but out of your way. Goode Co. is decent and probably your best bet.

Rudy's BBQ on 45. It's between DT and the woodlands. People might hate cuz it's a chain, but the moist brisket is the shite.

Make reservations for brunch at Hugo's on Sunday. 27 bucks all you can eat at one of the better places in town.
BBQ-The Brisket House in Memorial or Gatlin's.
IN downtown/Warehouse/EaDo there is Taco Keto, OG Ninfa's(no affiliation with the chains), Cafe TH, Oxheart, Hearsay and Bombay Pizza Company.

For great BBQ you have to go outside of Houston. For Tex-Mex, I like the food and atmosphere of El Tiempo. For Mex-Mex, go to Hugo's, it's a top-5 Houston restaurant.

El Tiempo for messican
Grimaldis pizza in The woodlands is great. Coal fired brick oven

Thanks guys. I think I'll make reservations for Brunch at Hugo's on Sunday, do El Tiempo probably Saturday or Friday, and for BBQ I guess I'll have to drive to Gatlins.
I appreciate the suggestions, keep them coming.
Oh and I'll for sure be making a stop at Spec's while I'm there.

anvil is a really solid cocktail bar that I went to a few weeks ago there.
The St. Arnold brewery tasting is great, and as soon as it ends, the Karbach brewery has another tasting. Can make for a really good aternoon of drinking on a Friday.

Great advice. This was probably what I was going to look into next. I forgot St. Arnold was in Houston. I'll for sure be doing this Friday

Disagree. Way to crowded.
Karbach is great though, and Buffalo Bayou is new, but fun. No Label is a good time, but far out in the burbs.
Also check out Hay Merchant or Petrol Station.

El Tiempo is the best in Houston

Do not waste your time on Chuy's. Overrated. Hugo's is a much better choice. Irma's Southwest Grill is nearby where you are also.

Irma's is terrible. Was there for lunch on Friday and hated it. Bland food and the service was subpar. Only good thing there is the guacamole.

the creamy jalapeno dip at chuys is badass, i like their enchiladas too. Cyclone anayas and el tiempo are the only others i would recommend for mexican. Agree gatlins is the only good bbq and it's not really that good. Go to del friscos or pappa's bros and get a steak instead.

Mexican - i prefer Lupe's Tortilla. Closest to DT would be on 59 @ Buffalo Speedway.BBQ- I do second the rudy's. But there isn't one inside the loop (610). Good Co. BBQ is solid second choice, follow by Pappa's BBQ.
