Even though this was a toe tapper in the 80's, this version cuts through the campy production of that era...

For discussion purposes, what do you consider a great cover?

to me, a "great/best" cover would be 1 in which the cover is better than the original. It would be hard for me to label the best cover, 1 in which there is the same song done better.

that being said, although i enjoy shinedown version of simple man, i dont think anyone can do it better than skynyrd...also i have heard many versions of cortez the killer, but none has surpassed neil young's original.

does a cover have to be better than the original to be consider the greatest, or just does it have to jam? thoughts?
