funny that you ask...I just had a slamming one from Tramontes for lunch and thought about starting a thread about it...THe oysters were huge, plentiful and fried perfectly. Great value for $8.95

Tramonte's is a great guy joint, huge portions, no decor and cheap prices, da eyster poboy is excellent. Dunno why my wife hates da place.

Parrain's is a favorite also, a small notch above Acme.

Nobody goes to Dempsey's anymore, it's too crowded.

I never had any thoughts that the sharpies on the board would let that slide. although he denies he ever said it. In a way that's true about Dempsey's, as silly as it sounds. That last 2 times I tried to go there at lunch there was a wait for a table, something I never do unless there is a good bar involved.

Tony's Seafood makes a pretty legit one, or the last time I had one there it was, but their shrimp poboy is the best.

The problem I have with most, besides the bread and floods of mayo, is most places use entirely too much cornmeal and overcook the oysters to death.

I've had Tony's shrimp poboy a few times and I must say it's pretty good. They use leidenheimer bread and good size shrimp, but the one turn-off I have is they never devein their shrimp all. I don't mind seeing one every once in a while but seeing every one of them is a turn off.

Love Tony's but they put way to much salt in everything (boudin balls and catfish strips)

Good points... I'm just happy with the bread and fresh shrimp, but you're right about not deveining the shrimp. Haven't had their boudin balls or catfish strips to say one way or the other, but I wouldn't doubt it. Salt seems to be one of those thing that if people could just master it would make everything they do so much better.

Their catfish and especially the boudin balls are awesome, but I can only eat a few of each before I'm overwhelmed by the salt.
