Ok guys, I've been put in charge of making a batch of Bloody Mary's for a Super Bowl party...I have a recipe from a restaurant I used to work at that used Cambells Tomato juice, Heinz Ketchup (I know, sounds disgusting but gave it a tanginess that I liked), worcestershire, lemon juice, Tabasco and a few spices. Last time I made a batch of this, others did'nt think it was nearly as good as I did..So I'm looking for a new recipe...What'cha got?

just get one of the premade bloody mary mixes like zing zang or something and then add some of the other stuff to make it more spicy. garnish with things and enjoy

Pour Vodka. Add a touch of dark beer (Guinness, preferably). Add Zing Zang. Shake or stir. Then add Worcestershire Sauce to taste. You will do no better starting from scratch.

Make a batch of Bloody Caeser. This recipe is money, but don't add the Tabasco. Let each individual spice it up to his liking.

This is probably what I'm going to end up doing...

I never heard of adding a dark beer to the mix...What part beer to one part bottle of mix would you recommend? To be clearer, how much beer would you add to a bottle of Zing Zang if you were making a batch?

I personally do not like Zing Zang.

I use the following:

Tobasco bloody mary mix
L&P
Celery Salt
black pepper
squeeze of lime
squeeze of lemon
splash of olive juice
garnish with queen olives and spicy green beans or celery.

If doing a pitcher, I use one 32 ounce jar of mix and about one and a half cups of vodka. I go ahead and mix everything, but leave the citrus out till folks make one up.

how much beer

I use maybe a tablespoon or two for a 16 oz Drink. That's with a pretty healthy pour of vodka. I would add it per drink, and not mix it with your bloody mary mix beforehand. A 12 oz bottle of beer is easily enough for a 750ml of vodka.

Awesome..Thanks for all the advice. I'm not going to mix the batch until tomorrow so keep the recipes coming! I love a good bloody mary, so even if I don't use your recipe tomorrow, I'll be sure to try it sometime down the road.

Zing Zang works well as a base. Whiskey Willies is better, but I can only find that in New Orleans.

Pickled okra also make a good garnish and throwing in a food boiled shrimp to suck up the juices is a nice treat.

Take a good premix, I like Zing Zang or Major Peters, and add some horseradish to it. You good to go. Kick it up with some spicy green beans, okra spears, and celery. Might throw a large boiled shrimp on top of each one, too.

Vodka + Zing Zang + 1 teaspoon of A1 steak sauce (20oz glass)

Mix and add pickled things. Top with celery salt.

Enjoy

To try something different, I used pickled asparagas last batch I made...I thought it gave it a nice touch

I like pickled asparagus also. By the time I'm done, I'm usually drinking a shrimp salad.

Check out Wickles. I actually made a thread on here about them before if you want to search for it.

Wickles are delicious in a bloody Mary and they also have okra wikles. Great stuff.

If you're going with a mix, call around and find some Whiskey Willie's. Best mix made.

I mentioned that one above. It's definitely the best, but I don't think it's sold in BR, yet. I've called the company a few times and they keep telling me they're increasing their area, but that it was only sold in Nola and Covington areas in LA. I haven't checked in about 6 months, though.

Do let us know. If you're in Nola, I buy it at Prytania Liquor. I load up on it. Doesn't need anything for my taste. I drink it without liquor during the day, sometimes, because it's just so good.

zing zang is the best, imo.

the vodka doesnt matter

make sure you get:

worchestire sauce
olives
spicy beans
pepper grinder
lemon/lime
tabasco
celery for garnish

not sure about making a big batch though or what the proper measure would be
