So I've developed a real problem...severe headaches with red wines. I've read a little about Rieslings and the California Chardonnays that are paired with red meats, but wanted to get some opinions from anyone who's tried this. Any good recs?

If you can't drink a red, I'd recommend a buttery chard.

I love reislings. Chateau St. Michelle is a safe one to get. Most people like it.

A really ggod version of either would be better than a white, IMO.

I love Riesling so I'm partial to that but I believe a Chardonnay would be a better pairing.

I can't drink red wine. Gives me headaches so I stick to beer when eating steak

I love the taste.. It's not that. It's the headaches I get. After 3 glasses I can't do it.

Maybe it'll change once I can stop at 2-3 glasses

I agree with a good dark beer but if it needs to be a wine here is a little trick to pair better with white wine. Ask your server for fresh lemon and squeeze some on your steak. Ideally white wine will be overwhelmed by the savoryness (umami) of the steak. By adding acid it helps your mouth to adjust to your white wine. At this point drink whatever you prefer since white wine wasn't the best choice for steak to begin.

Normally stick to reds, but went with the crowd, and had Rombauer Chardonnay with a filet at Morton's Steakhouse last summer..

Rombauer makes some solid whites.

If you get headaches you have two potential problems.

You drink too much.

You drink bad wine.

Try a Chassagne-Montrachet. Pretty full-bodied for a white. I have had it with meats and was impressed. I'm usually a full-bodied red kind of guy but would gladly take a Chassagne-Montrachet if offered again.

California Chardonnays

I much prefer a French Chardonnay. try to find something crisp that isn't aged in new oak barrels. Vincent Girardin is a good label.
