According to VolQuest, Hart will not give the assistants that need to be hired multi-year deals and no current assistants will get extended this offseason. One year deals for the entire staff going into next year (except Jay Graham who is here not for Dooley, but because he is a former Vol).

Tells you all you need to know about how Dooley is viewed by Hart.

Why doesn't he just go ahead and fire Dooley now?

We would be hiring another Dooley at this point in the process. This is why we have this frickup to begin with. He was hired Jan. 20th. We will have a real search starting next fall.

No assistant worth anything will agree to that. Have fun going 2-10 next year. The more I read/hear about what Dave Hart is doing at Tennessee the more I'm glad he left Alabama.

BTW, Dave was hired in October. If he really doesn't think Dooley is going to work out he should have fired him after the Kentucky game and started over. He is killing the Vol football program. You know....on second though....good job Dave! Keep up the outstanding work.

Wow. You guys may need to call up Willy Rob then. He is recently unemployed and probably isn't getting another job this year.

Hamilton did that for him, and he can't kill what has already been killed and buried

I think Hart is actually making the hard choices about what is best for UT long-term. And that means swallowing the bitter pill of another year of Dooley.

Then making his own hire. The next head coach at UT will probably be an up-and-coming assistant or a coach from a mid-major.

I'm thinking someone like Gus Malzahn after a year at ASU. Or Mario Cristobal from FIU. A coach like either of those two.

Relatively young and energetic. You need a sea change in culture at UT now. And no one with ties to another major school, like Kiffen had to USC.

Hang in there Vol fans. Your school has too much going for it to be down long.

I just don't see how this could be good for the situation. You basically just fricked this years and nexts recruiting for a team that is still relying on youth to help them get better. Hart had better plan on hiring a major name coach if he doesn't want to put himself on the hot seat.

You have to ask your self who would the Vols get at this stage? And what kind of coach would take a job at a school that fires it's head coach after two years?

Better to ride the storm out, make a good hire next year.
