In a way I'm a little surprised. I think most expected him to retire after the 2014 season. That would've given him an even 10 years and follow through the 4-year cycle of Clowney's class (and Lattimore's of course being a year above)

I suppose it would take a 10-win season at SC for the SEC rant to stop thinking Spurrier is going to retire after every single season.

quote:

Steve Spurrier will remain the head football coach at South Carolina for at least four more seasons.

In the wake of the second 10-win season in school history, the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees on Tuesday unanimously approved awarding Spurrier with a two-year contract extension through the 2015 season.

Here is the link for anyone interesetd in reading all the exciting fiscal numbers.

Also thought this part was interesting on the bottom section of random notes.

quote:

-- Total athletic department debt will rise to $128.2 million with the softball stadium and Farmer's Market projects ready to begin in earnest. AD Eric Hyman told the Board by phone that the athletic department has reached the maximum debt level. The debt amount puts USC in the middle of the pack of the SEC, Hyman said.

Recruiting mainly, for those who make the decision based heavily on the head coach I suppose. It just seemed to make the most sense for him to retire after 2014 (unless of course he had the fire to coach another 10 years)

DGD did you see where it said that was about the middle of the pack SEC? Where do you think UGA is in debt?

If he wants to hang it up sooner, he will. This isn't a guarantee.

Congrats. As long as Steve sticks with you guys for a few more years, you have a shot at establishing a contending program that could extend beyond his time there.

Kinda like Florida?

With Zook?

And a highly likely scenario with Boom?

There was actually a UF poster that says its not the next hire that is big for us, its the one after that, because typically speaking the guy that follows the really good coach either fails completly or doesn't meet the uber high expectations. (ie Zook, Rodriguez at Michigan)

Of course its not always the case, Kiffin seems to be headed in the right direction with So.Cal as does Kelly at Oregon.

the Zooker & Rich Rod were just bad hires for their respective schools. not the same as replacing a legendary coach like Bear Bryant or Vince Dooley. Bobby Bowden had destroyed his program so his legacy hasn't been the problem. Paterno's legacy won't be an issue because the next PSU coach will have much bigger problems to deal w/ to reestablish the program.

Nah, when he lead the 1st team to score 50+ points in Athens the state had no choice but to give it to him as peace offering.

This is all very well documented of course.

have cock fans really sunk as low as to talk shite to georgia by using UF as the catalyst? I guess when your schools top accomplishment is losing 56-17 in the SECCG or it's 2nd 10 win season ever then the cupboard isn't that full. 46-16-2 doesn't leave much room for shite talking either come to think of it.

now you wanna answer my question or what?

Well well well and the UGA fans are starting to sound like Clempson fans. SC has always had a mediocre history, but the only time UGA and Clemmons fans are interested in it is when SC is beating them.

Btw, pay attention. I wasn't using UF, I was using Spurrier as the catalyst.
