I was so excited to read this news yesterday:

Alexander associated: St. Amant-based Murray's Inc. has purchased approximately 3.5 acres of vacant land at Highland Road and Perkins Road East, across from Blue Bayou Waterpark, on which it will build an Associated Grocers neighborhood supermarket, says company President Lathan Alexander. "We are hoping to open in the fall of 2012," Alexander says. "It will be named Alexander's Highland Market."

My first real job was at Murray's and I know Lathan....if anybody cares. lol

This will be a great addition to the Highland/Perkins area!

I think it will be behind the Exxon station and across from Blue Bayou, not exactly on the corner.

Gotcha, I'm not familiar with them. How's there beer selection generally?

I can't help you there. I haven't lived near Murray's in over 25 years.

Their store in St. Amant is smaller than Calandro's.

Next time I see Lathan I will ask him what this store will be like.

They should model their beer/wine selection after Calandro's. Especially in that area. They'd have a very frequent shopper right here.

Haven't been in Murray's in a while, but if it hasn't changed in the past 4 years they are going to have to step their game up to make it worth going past W/D and Albertsons. Going to Calandro's isn't a bad trip, but it is worth it.

That is just for me though. The place will stay packed because of location and cause many wrecks from people turning out/in.

Murray's make some very very good head cheese. I rank it as good as Jerry Lee's. His boudin is pretty good too. Has some good store made smoked sausage and other variety sausages.

The deli here in St.Amant makes great fried chicken as well. The rest is just a small time grocery store but I would expect that store to be much different in that location. Good addition to that area IMO.

Nice to see some St. Amant peeps.

I would make my mom drop me off at Murray's in the morning so I could walk to SAMS, because I was too cool to ride the bus OR have my parents drop me off directly in front of the school.

Go see Bridget Robert across the street at Bacchus for wine, liquor and beer. She's opening the space next to her to serve wine and tapas shortly.

This is next to Hello Sushi.

Sweet! That's my parent's barrio. It will be nice not to have to go to Albertsons or Winn Dixie.
