and UF wasn't the Gators. Would y'all want to have the Gators as your mascot or stick with Tigers? Dumb question I know (cause you are used to, and all you know is Tigers/Bayou Bengals/Mike the Tiger/etc), but the reason I ask is b/c my neighbor (LSU grad) says he wishes LSU had a different, less common mascot....and I was surprised to hear him claim he'd rather be the Gators over the Tigers (if Florida didn't already stake that claim). So what say the rant? Or is seeing the LSU Gators written out simply too weird to handle? Keep in mind you could have a Mike the Gator in a cage as your mascot before games

Eta: and if not a Gator, is there any other native mascot y'all would prefer over a Tiger? Especially if Mizzou joins LSU and Auburn with 3 Tigers in tSEC.

Honey Badger is not an option

While I would never want to go back now, I always thought it would have been cool if we were originally the Pelicans.

Dumb question. Forever LSU TIGERS! The Louisiana Tigers terrified people during the Civil War and continue to terrify...with honey badgers.

GFY - we didn't pick Tigers because we thought the animal was badass (it is.) Picked it bc of the baddest civil war fighters on da block, son. They were the honey badgers of the war before anyone knew what the hell a honey badger was.

yeah, but a pelican isn't very intimidating, and a gator in a cage pulled around the stadium on gameday? Just not the same. Gotta have the ROAR for pregame...when he gets in his cage of course.

Reptile or Feline? Pond dwelling lizard or jungle hunter? Green and scaly or golden and furry?

Doesn't seem like that tough a choice.

It's true... we're not actually named for animals.

We're named after human beings who acted like animals.

That's how scary Louisiana is.

While I hear your enthusiasm, I'll stick with the LSU Fighting Tigers. Too much rich history and pride for me. Plus, honestly, I like our name! Good luck this weekend.

What's the mascot you would fear the most getting lose during the game as a person in the stands?

We are named after Louisiana Confederate soldiers. We have a live motherfricking tiger on campus.

I wouldn't have it any other way.

Yes, there was a great thread on that article. I now have Dr. Jones' book on my wishlist.
