Does UF have a real gator? If you don't, that is really really lame.

Woodies bring the Wood. That way we could bring our duck calls to the game and wear camo.

Thundering Herd always gets my attention but does not really relate to our area.

Having a mascot named after Confederate soldiers is very insensitive and will certainly bring shame to us soon. It will definitely cause problem with recruting. I can see us in the near future due to public outcry being forced to change our mascot to somethng more politically correct...something along the lines of some sort of bear maybe.

the lack of knowledge of military history among the unwashed masses here continues to simply astound me!!!!!

the bengal tiger incorporated in insignia of louisiana military units goes back to 1838 with the Washington Artillery of New Orleans (several posters use the regimental crest as their avatar)...which is still in the Order of Battle of the United States Army (141st and 935th Field Artillery)...

the 256th Infantry Brigade is also known as the Tiger Brigade...

these units have battle honors that go beyond the Civil War...ever hear of Anzio? and the 256 has gone to both Afghanistan and Iraq...

While I would never want to go back now, I always thought it would have been cool if we were originally the Pelicans.

I like it. I would rather something original/specific to our culture. And I know Tigers has cultural significance, but just hearing it, it doesn't seem different than Clemson or Detroit.

Well there aren't tigers in louisana or many gators in florida, but there are gators in louisiana, so I would've liked that, but having been the tigers, no way I'd trade now
