that's what I am up hunting at 4:30 this morning. set up my perimeter alarm monday last week but he has either not been crossing or it has fallen over in the grass. Tonight I saw him for the first time and had a shot but missed 3 times. Scope must be way off, no way I can be that bad of a shot. I thought I had a hit but he went into the storm drain. I'll find out at daylight.

He's tearing up my flower bed that I spent a lot of money and time getting done. Trapping would work but less fun.

I can tell you one thing. Those traps from Home Depot can't hold an armadillo. I had a family that made a burrough under my house. One night I was watching as he entered the cage. He went in and 10 seconds later, he bent the shite out of the door and took off. At least I think that made him move his residence to one of my other neighbors.

Do you have access to a Gill net? Lay that out on the lawn were he is digging, in the morning you find him tangled up like you never believe, them you can take out the frustration on him with a weopon of your choice.

I know your pain... I was up hunting them for about two weeks. Started a thread just like you to vent and get some ideas. Ultimately, a .22 is the best defense. After killing 5-6, I think I've got the problem solved, for now. Haven't seen one nor has my yard been tore up in over a week.

Good luck!

What is it about this year and armadillo breeding? Have conditions been perfect? I've seen more threads on this than ever and talked to many people with the same issue. I've killed 5 in the last 2 weeks and it seems like it never ends. My yard looks like the surface of the moon.

Weapon of choice is a silenced ruger 10-22 from the great folks at AWC.

Maybe I was tired but I straight up missed. The scope in on perfect. Could that bullet have ricochet off his back? How hard is that sob. I will get him this week.

try buying a "driveway alarm" --it is a wireless motion detector. Put it where the armadillo is digging, when it goes off, you go out and blast him. Saves a lot of time trying to guess when he is ut there. Got mine for under 20.00.

Do you think I am waiting all night for him. Already have a perimeter alarm. I had some kids breaking into cars a few years back so I bought one. Yes we caught the bastards.

It went off last night but I was too tired to get up and look. I will resume tonight.

Sweet. Hope you have a Class III.

It probably penetrated. A 22 through the body isn't going to drop one in its tracks. I've shot one about 6 times with a 10/22 and it hauled arse. It'll probably die evenutally.

DO NOT just run up to them and boot the shite out of them. Did it once. Thought I broke all of my toes.

I used to do this. I'd stay up late and get up early. I killed a few, but my wife got fed up with my obsession and we just started trapping and executing the things. I keep a bow with some old shafts and broadheads handy in the garage, though, in case one of em bumbles by when I'm outside. Shovels work, too.

BTW, they produce four offspring each time they breed.

Not only that but those things supposedly spread leprosy.

As for annoyances, It's almost impossible to drive a 2 lane highway at night anymore without hitting or coming close to hitting either a possum or an armadillo. Armadillos during deer hunting season are the worst. You're sitting in the woods convinced a nice buck is cruising slowly towards you in the woods only to finally spot an armadillo rooting around in the leaf litter instead.

We had one rooting round outside our tent one night. My wife thought it was a bear and nothing I could tell her would help until I gave up and went chase it off.

I'm going to write my report and confirm a kill. When I shot he ran to the culvert crossing the street. Went back the next day to look and he was not visible. Cutting grass today I got a wiff of a bad smell. Stuck my nose inside and almost passed out. Dead animal smell I win. I will continue he fight I'm sure he has friends and relatives.

In the future I may just tell my neighbors that they might hear a shot and bring out the shotgun. 22 is quiet but I like to see the finished product
