Gautreau's Review...

Morning All,
Went to Gautreau's last night for the first time to celebrate someone's birthday.
Glassman was right - this place is incredibly loud and very small. So it's very quaint, but not romantic at all (if that makes sense).
For appetizers, I took the plunge and ordered the sweetbreads, and we also got the tomato basil soup.
As far as sweetbreads go, sure they tasted nice, but I couldn't tell what was breaded. They were served with a little bit of lump crab and shreds of apple. It was four sweetbreads that were each about the size of a quarter ($14).
The tomato basil soup was very, very good - and it was a nice, big bowl that was beautifully presented ($10).
For entrees, we got the halibut, the flounder, and one of us got two apps as an entree - the scallops and tuna tartar.
The halibut and flounder were both excellent - just lovely pieces of fish. That being said, I can't stand it when the accompanying stuff is three little tiny fried artichokes (which were damn good), and a little bit of salsa, a small amount of green stuff (can't remember what this was?), and a slab of lemon yogurt. For $33, an entree needs to be more substantial than that. Same story with the flounder. There's nothing wrong putting an actual serving of potatoes on the plate, so I wish they'd try it like this!
Scallops were great ($15), but the tuna tartar ($12) was the one forgettable thing, so skip that one.
For dessert, we ate the banana split ($13), and it definitely does feed two. You will enjoy this for sure.
The service was excellent all night, and two of us noted that everything was served piping hot - which you don't always get, even at a very high end place. It was also nice to see the owner bringing drinks to a few tables.
With two glasses of wine and one cocktail, it came to $190 before tip.
Recommended, no doubt about it, but it is a bit expensive for what you get.

I haven't been there in 22 years. Got to fix that. The meal was one of the best I've had in New Orleans.

It's good. Not great but good. I like the loudness which I like in most restaurants. Tommys is loud.
Foie gras is really good. Duck is good but the fish is fish.
I was in Bistro Daisy the other night and that would be my choice of the two.

My wife and I dined at Gautreau's Saturday night at 8:30. We had went and had drinks on the porch at the Columns a little earlier, so the evening was already going pretty well.
I'm not much into long well written reviews.
I started with the seared scallops. I think the decription was that they were in a little sauce of bacon vinergerret with some little parmasan crips. Outstanding. Best scallops dish I have ever had.
The wife got a great pear salad.
My entree was a filet with bernaise sauce. I know I shouldn't get steak at a place like this, but that was calling my name along with a glass of red wine. It was done perfectly.
The wife ordered the halibut. She loved it.
We split the bannana split dish and it was very very good.
I thought the service was pretty good, but I kind of expected a little more from this place.
Overall a great meal and I would def. recommend it to anyone else, but this place may be just right above my price/pain line at $195 after tip.

I do think they ought to serve 3 scallops for $15, instead of 2.
