Why was Lee named starting QB over Mettenberger?

For three years, I've watched this guy struggle. He is only good in four down territory where passing the ball is our only option (Tennessee, Florida 2010). You put him in a situation where he has to mix the run with the pass, he is mediocre at best.
I haven't watched one fall practice, and I already know Mettenberger is better. Is Miles showing Lee love because he is a senior? Is Mettenberger injured? Help me out here...

Maybe because Lee is a 5th year senior with on the field experience?
Mett is a RS sophomore. Very little playing time.

Many said the same thing about Jamarcus Russell...Rest easy man...Perhaps Mett will be better, and maybe already, but Lee is a 5th year Sr...

No, for 1 year you saw him struggle. You saw him play well last year - of course - if you saw him play at all. Your comments suggest you know little about LSU football and in particular, the QB position.

I think it is a horrible decision. Lee has been given several chances to prove himself. If he's our only option, fine, but we have Mettenberger on the sidelines, who every LSU fan knows is better than both Jefferson or Lee. I'm shocked that I wasn't reading posts earlier this week saying, "Good, I'm glad Jefferson is suspended. Mettenberger is better anyway."
Now that Jefferson is indeed suspended, I'm once again shocked that I'm not reading, "How could Miles name Jarrett "Pick 6" Lee the starter over phenom Mettenberger?"

Lee came up big for us against Tennessee and Florida last year, but only when it was the last series of the game, when it was fourth down territory and passing was the only option. Earlier in those games, he struggled.
To say Lee didn't struggle last year proves you are delusional.

Yeah, but you'd be delusional to not see that Lee had clearly made great improvements from his year as the starter. He seems to respond well to coaching. Which is why he deserves a shot under Krags.

I want the best man to start at QB. That man is clearly Mettenberger.
Jarrett Lee cannot mix the run with the pass. I will say this, I was surprised Miles didn't put Lee in late in the game vs. Arkansas last year when it was four down territory and a "pass only" situation.

I love blanket statements such as "every LSU fan," and Mett is "clearly better." How is he clearly better? You saw one touchdown in the spring game, and suddenly he is amazing?
If Lee struggles, then you could very well see Mett step in. However, I feel that with one week before a game with that type of tallent during a very troubled time, the team needs a guy like Lee. He has paid his dues.
