re: Why was Lee named starting QB over Mettenberger?

Yes, I do think JJ is better than Lee. At least with JJ, you pick up a few first downs before punting the ball away. That helps you win the battle of field position, and eventually, you will only need a few first downs to, at the very least, kick a field goal.
do you not remember how many times JJ went 3 and out last season??? how many times the offense failed to move the ball.. for every scrambling first down picked up by JJ, THERE is Lee throwing for positive yards.
the one thing that pisses me off about jj most is his inaccuracy on the short passing game. there is absolutely no excuse for it.. yet he failed several times to hit a guy on 5-10 yard routes..
you show clear hate by calling him pick 6.. when that was mainly due to his freshman yr.
last yr lee won games for LSU in very limited time.. you say he had 3 yrs to show anything.. but he really didn't have a real chance to prove much since he lost the starting job to jefferson. he only had 40 attempts his sophomore yr. and he did show promise in very limited time as a junior.
jefferson had a 56% passing completion last season with a whopping 7 passing tds.. and 9 ints.. he threw more interceptions than touch downs.
lee had 60.7% completion percentages with 2 tds and 1 int.
i'm not saying lee is so great, it's almost a wash.. but he does show more promise as a passer.. he is prone to the sacks and you very well could end up seeing mettenberger sooner than you think.. but come on.. get behind whoever is named the starter.
oh and for the whole.. but he rushed for 6 tds.. so he accounted for 13 total tds.. that is nothing special. qb rushing tds is not that impressive.. we have extremely talented actual rbs to pick that up this season.
lee just needs to get the ball into the playmakers hands. plain and simple.. we all shall be happy and excited.

There is no point in arguing, people are so fricking dumb on here it's pathetic

Actually that's 2 examples. He played against Miss. St and Georgia at the same time?
Can you count to 2?
The Austin thing means you've been hanging around those overrated longhorns. Not too sharp, are you?
It sure seems simple enough, doesn't it?

So how do you know this? It appears you are getting bad info. CLM knows what he is doing. Mett will be the guy... Next year!

I'm going to say this one more time, so Lee fans/PosiTigers, read this slowly: Lee was only effective in fourth down situations when we were in "pass only" mode (I think Depeche is french for pass only). Any time he had to mix the run with the pass, he was mediocre at best.
I wanted the best for Lee, he is a Texan just like me; but this is second verse, same as the first. He cannot mix the run with the pass. If he couldn't last year, why this year?

Does this register? It doesn't matter if you agree with it or not.
This is how it is. Entiendes? Comprende'? Got it?

I said he threw for 216. He did throw for more than that. That is one incorrect response on my part, for those scoring at home.

How old are you? 17? 18?
Shoal Creek packs in 150 Tiger fans for every televised game. Austin is not in short supply of LSU fans, my friend. If you actually left that little city you're in and experienced life beyond Lake Charles, you might know how broad LSU's fan base is. I don't blame you, though, that rickety I-10 bridge is tall and scary.

If only it were this simple. Experience alone does not win ball games. You need talent and ability as well.

Interesting that you looked right over the UGA game stat.
You're just a barrell of laughs. how do you know I haven't lived outside of LC? I assure you, I have. It was even out of state.
How old am I? There's a simple way to find out.
And don't refer to me as "your friend."

OOOOHHHHH!!!! We're not friends? That just breaks me in two.

How many INTs did he have in that game? How many pick 6's?
I probably blocked that game from memory because it was tragic. Yep. It's all coming back to me. UGA, 52-38. Thanks for making me relive all the pick 6's he threw in that one.

Inexperience can definitely lose a game.
I pointed to the effect seeing the field too soon had on quarterbacks with a lot of hype (Tyrod Taylor and Jarrett Lee). I don't want to be VTech in the LSU vs VTech 07 game, and I don't want to be LSU in the 08 Florida game (or most of the games that season). Mett deserves a chance to show what he can do, but Lee has played well, and not just on fourth down or "obvious passing situations". He's typically had nothing but "obvious passing situations" because he's been sent out to win some games with his arm and he's performed. He sealed the deal again Alabama, he played well through significant stretches of the Tennessee and Florida games. He didn't have a lot of opportunities last year, but he made some plays. Mett is an unknown quantity. Experience in the system matters. If you don't agree, and you want to believe Mett is the better QB even though you've not seen him play in a real game situation then by all means be that guy and we can agree to disagree.

your logic is SERIOUSLY flawed

I'm sure it does.
So then there were 2 examples. A 3rd thing you were wrong about.
You were talking about passing yards per game. Sure it was a f'd up game but he did pass for 250.
The fact of the matter is this and there's no way of getting around this:
Lee has years of experience playing against strong competition. Mett does not. Simple enough for you?
End I'd discussion. If you have a problem with it, feel free to call the football ops building. They'll enjoy listening to you just as I and other posters have.

It's funny how you Lee supporters took this quote and ran with it!
My point here is that you don't even need to see a snap because you know what you're getting with Lee: a guy who can't mix the run with the pass.
Mettenberger is a highly touted JUCO transfer. Remember how excited we were when he signed?
Who knows, he could be an underachiever just like Lee, but...
I doubt it.
I think Miles is making a mistake. We'll see next Saturday.
I hope half of you who stayed up all night arguing with me are actually going to the Oregon game next Saturday...

i forgot... You KNOW that Mettenberger can Because you watched him in fall practice.. Nevermind, you said you didn't
