Are there any wedding reception halls in Baton Rouge that don’t require you to use their caterer?

what caterer do you want to use. i know the museum downtown doesnt care who caters as long as its electric elements to heat up the food and no open fire since there is a lot of art in the building.

ive seen people do their own food with aid of family members at civic centers just outside of BR.

I'm pretty sure the Louisiana State Museum, Old Governor's Mansion, & the Old State Capitol do not have their own caterers, but they may have a list of approved or preferred caterers that you have to use.

For someplace a bit less expensive, you might try some of the hotels to see if they have a banquet room available. I don't know if they would allow outside food or not.

ETA: Also try some of the BREC facilities--maybe Magnolia Mound Plantation?

This is Denham, but whatever.. BR outlier:

LINK

They have a caterer linked on their site but I assumed it just meant it's one you "can" use.. or that they usually work with. Because it's a totally different company.

If I remember correctly, you have to make a $4,000 "donation" to the state before you can even rent any of the state owned facilities.

Then you can pick your own caterer.

I just read their guidelines.. holy god.. are all venues like this?

quote:

Prohibited Items:

Prohibited items include but are not limited to the following:
Red wine, red-colored punch, purple grape juice, “Kool-aid,” cranberry juice, tomato sauce,
Bloody Mary mix and tomato juice, or any other dark colored sauce or liquid which may cause
stains.

Ice sculptures may be approved by special arrangement.

Fresh fruits, which cause stains (grapes, berries), if used, should be presented in a manner that
minimizes the likelihood of falling on floors or furniture. Any food spillage, particularly in the
case of fruit, should be wiped up immediately.

Juice from many fruits is acidic and will stain and damage marble surfaces. Food items using
red food coloring may also cause stains.

If any such damage occurs, the cost for repairs or
remediation will be charged to the Client damage deposit.

A wedding without red wine is a sad wedding indeed .. at least for me

Thanks for the help! We were trying for the Old State Capitol, but it's booked through July 2012. We are trying to use a family member in the restaurant business for the catering. After researching it for a few days, I was surprised how few places there are in Baton Rouge where you can bring in your own caterer.

All fine choices that would get me laughed out the room.

If this is true.. and if what I'm seeing is true (where you can't use your own decor).. this girl (me) is not getting married in a rented building in BR. Period.

Best of luck to you dear!

I don't want "typical" wedding food at my wedding. I found a caterer via BargainBee of all places randomly that does more modern, interesting food. I'd like to have them if possible.

If true, I'm game for that
I just can't handle the "typical" Baton Rouge wedding.. and I'm sure you know what I mean :) Same boring plantation with their same boring decor that they make you use, same jambalaya/pasta with sandwiches and meatballs, same crap crap crap

It almost seems best to just have a big tented reception where I can control everything.

What about the 4th floor of the Shaw Center? They have a list of preferred caterers, but it doesn't appear that it's mandatory to use one of them.

What??? No Swedish meatballs, mini-muffs, finger sandwiches, little oyster patties, RB carving table? Can this marriage be doomed to innovation before it starts?
