pick a rookie in nationwide you like and follow him. brad k., trevor b. etc. they run in sprint also and are upcoming stars.
me, i'm partial to chevys so tend to stick with those. hendricks team for example. or you could be douche and pull for kyle bush.

I've been following the sport since 1993, and I still don't have a fav, but I def have hatred for a few.

Watch a pre-race/post-race where they interview some guys; whichever guy jumps out at you to have the attitude you like. Probably post-race more than pre-race, everyone's happy pre-race. Post-race can show you the good or bad side of some drivers.

Harvick drives for Budweiser now.

I pull for Tony Stewart. He reamed out ESPN once live on air because of some comments he made about drinking a case of beer after winning a race

Two other things to consider

1. The car he drives--Chevy, Ford, Toyota, Dodge

2. If you are a bandwagon fan, pull for the Hendrick drivers (Johnson, Gordon, Junior, and Martin). They are the Cowboys of NASCAR. They get all the press, and all of them but Jimmie Johnson have sucked on the track the last few years

If you find yourself liking brad keselowski, just give up on becoming a fan.

I picked Mark Martin because I thought he was the most talented no matter the car- Cup, Bush (Nationwide now) or IROC and he was the most well respected among other drivers.

I always root for the one who provides the most exciting crashes. When I was a kid, I use to record entire NASCAR races, then just fast forward through it to where I could watch the crashes. I don't give a shite about the rest.

This, and then personality of the driver. IMO.
