What is the Best Oyster Opener?

Saw Otis with Oysters on WFDT . . . I'm out of practice with the old fashion oyster opening and cringe when I think of the knife puncture pain. Anything to these "nutcracker" looking openers? Is any one better than others?

I suggest you quit being such a fa$$@t and use a knife like everybody else.

just opened 300 with some friends to grill tomorrow. i had access to a "nutcracker" but found a good ole fashion knife worked probably 3x as fast. i did use the nutcracker for those pesky ones.

I've got one. It's good to have when I'm doing several sacks and need a bit of help from someone that can't use a knife. Otherwise a knife is faster.

The oysters served in a French restaurant actually look pretty, which is an odd thing to say about oysters Thiers are vastly different in appearance to US oysters.

A buddy of mine actually got a patent on a design for an oyster knife. It was built with a wooden grip with a knuckle guard across the front. The knife blade was welded to the guard and came out at the same angle as your arm. The result was like using a wrench instead of a screwdriver to pop open the shells.

Best oyster knife ever. I still have a couple, and no, they are not for sale.

The intent is to have a half shell left to serve the raw oyster upon. You are using the nuclear bomb of oyster opening, so that gets 10 demerits taken from your score.

I put a welding glove on my left hand and use a knife. I popped a sack full yesterday. Berled crawfish, raw and chargrilled oysters. And apparently a few too many cold pops..

Nah, I passed out in my man cave after getting soundly whipped in a texas holdem game. Somehow, I woke up in my bed though. Not sure how all that happened.

It's funny, my left hand (glove hand) is fine. My right hand (knife hand) looks like I have lepercy there's so much skin missing...

Oppostite for me... Since we were college boys, ugh,30 something years ago, you would have figured that we could think about using a glove, while doing intricate surgery, using only one screwdriver and several Old Milwaukees.. But, since we didn't, my left palm looks kinda "scarryfied"...

thanks coon. I was afraid this was the answer. Have opened many oysters years ago at Phil's oyster bar. Just hoping there was a better (safer) way happening now.

So.......what was the point of getting a patent......if they are not for sale?

Oh they were for sale 20 years ago. Due to a lot of factors, mostly lack of capital, the business was not successful. The market for oyster knives is not as big as you would think.
