Good read from the Dayton Daily News about how similar our situations are/were and what Holtz did.

The decision now facing Buckeyes’ coach Jim Tressel — who must decide what to do with star quarterback Terrelle Pryor, top running back Dan Herron, heralded receiver Devier Posey and two lineman, all who must serve an NCAA-mandated five-game suspension to start next season because they peddled awards and in one case their Buckeyes’ uniform for, among other things, tattoos — is similar to the one Arkansas coach Lou Holtz dealt with in late December of 1977 as his team prepared to face No. 2 ranked Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl game.

Finally, an SEC fan admits the truth.

Good read Thanks
Both my parents are from El Dorado, Arkansas and my dad is an UA alumni and they have warm fuzzy feelings for Lou to this day. Gives me a little insight as to why...

So the Arky situation was 3 black guys got in trouble for having a naked white girl in their room in the 70's???

yeah this is how I interpreted it too. I mean, where was the "Do wrong rule?" in this? Isn't that what black guys are supposed to do? Gang Bang white chicks.
and I guess maybe they had a rule for no chicks in the athletic dorms or something? Seems like they should have played to me.

Great article.
I know Holtz is a popular punching bag, but I remember him doing this at Arkansas and it was the right thing to do then. If anything, OSU's situation is worse since it clear there was wrongdoing.
But will Tressel doing the right think? Probably not.

To any non-Ohio State fans, this is bullshite.
They're suspended for 5 games. That was the ruling and all that Tress has to follow. I'm sorry SEC fans are butthurt that TP might be able to play in the Sugar, but guess what, his career as a QB has already been fricked, so who cares? He stays for next season and he misses half of it. He leaves for the NFL... well, he's not very good.
Did you want more from this?
Now, as an Ohio State fan I can say frick all of them for selling their rings/gold pants. But, you're not, so you really shouldn't give a frick.

The Bucks would be 0-10 if they lose to Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl.

1. I don't give a frick about the rings and pants.
2. I think 5 games is too harsh. I think one game would be appropriate. I do NOT agree with delayed punishments. That's bull shite and unfair to people like Greene and Bryant. I Want OSU at full strength, but I think a delayed punishment is wrong. I'm pretty sure most hog fans agree.

I agree, even though no matter what, I doubt we're at full strength. There's probably a good amount of emotions swirling around that whole situation right now.
My point was this. Tress playing these players does not discredit him as a coach. He's losing some damn good players for almost half of next season(possibly the entire season, if/when they go pro).
If I knew that their suspensions would be downgraded next season if they were to skip the Sugar, I would say do it. But, frick possibly suspending them 6 games for selling their own items.

I agree. I don't believe that it was 100% his decision to play them b/c the NCAA said it's okay. I have always liked Tressel, and this doesn't change my views on him. It's the NCAA and Big tenelventwelve that sucks arse.
anyway, i want them to play ONLY b/c I don't want our game tainted b/c you guys.

The funny thing about this thread is that Lou Holtz publicly RIGHT NOW states the suspensions are too harsh and that the Ohio State players SHOULD play in the Sugar Bowl.

I'm just hoping for a good game.
And, I'm kind of happy(along with much of my family) that if we had to miss a bowl game, it was this season.
Granted, I still want to go, but with all this crap going on it loses a little luster. Of course, I say that now, but as soon as it's gametime I'll be as hell.

I like to think that he thinks they should play b/c of WHAT they did. I dunno. It's Lou. who the flip knows with him.
