Does anybody here actually like fruit cake?

It is always mentioned as one of the worst gifts ever received. I swear I don't know 1 person who actually likes it.

Obviously somebody somewhere must eat a crap-ton of them to keep these fruit cake companies in business.

i think it's an old people thing. every year i try a piece because for whatever reason it looks good. then i'm quickly reminded it sucks.

i came home drunk one night and pulled one out of the ice box with a tub of cool whip and ate the whole fricking thing.

wasn't that bad. might have been because of the cool whip, though.

I love Cool Whip. It would make an old gym shoe edible.

sometimes after taking that 1st bite i think to myself that this tastes pretty good, but that thought goes away quickly after the 2nd bite.

I think it depends on the fruit cake. 99% of them are rock hard monstrosities that taste terrible and destroy your colon.

The other 1% only mildly suck and do only minor bodily harm while tasting like grape nuts mixed with dessicated fruit.

There are only a dozen fruitcakes in the world and they just keep getting mailed to different people.

I not only like them, I make them. I don't put any spices. It's like a regular yellow cake with fruit. Most of the ones you buy suck badly.

My parents like fruit cake, they used to eat one every Christmas when my dad's aunt made them. I've never tried one myself, though.

I do.

Every year for Christmas we get a Collin Street Bakery DeLuxe Fruitcake. It's delicious.

FYI...you do realize you're supposed to soak the fruitcake in rum or brandy, right? I mean it's pretty darn good with just a slice of butter melted on, but liquor makes it so much better. It's an old tradition that people have forgotten about.

Btw, never made my own fruitcake...I've had crap store-bought fruitcake and it sucks, but Collin Street Bakery kicks butt.

Merry Christmas.

Never cared for any store-bought ones, but the ones my Mom has made over the years are great. Used to like Archway's fruitcake cookies too, but haven't seen any for years.

The fruitcake from Collin Street Bakery is the only fruitcake I've ever had that I liked. I've tasted bites of others and couldn't see why anyone would eat them. I got my first one from Collin Street, "fed"/soaked it with bourbon for a month and really liked it, with fresh whipped cream. I also warmed it and served it with good vanilla ice cream. Now, I get one every year and we look forward to it.

Ice cream sounds awesome. I'm trying that this year. Thanks for the idea. Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas to you, too.

I haven't fed it brandy before and I forgot to get one just after Thanksgiving, so maybe I'll use brandy when mine comes this year.

I love it a little warm, but sliced, toasted and buttered sounds pretty appealing.

I used to have a recipe for a stir and bake fruitcake. Then you would press it into a loaf pan. It was made with the candied cherries and pineapple ONLY. It was absolutely delicious. What make fruitcake disgusting is that nasty citrus peel-laden fruit mixture.
