Beat local non chain seafood place? Got talked into going to a chain place in their town center last night, decent but forgetable, what's the best local spot?

I went here last summer... Dewey Destin for lunch. Had a grilled grouper sandwich. It's OK, but not going to win any awards.

We gravitated toward the town center place on the back bay due to Nieces as well.

Went to Dewey Destin three days ago. Great view outside. Very average food. How do you make crab cakes forgettable?

For in town, it really is hard to beat, or at least it was under the original ownership.

If you're looking to feed a mess of teenage boys, it's a good choice. It's not really good food, but I can always fill up with shrimp, oysters and mussels.

seriously? If you're looking for everything fried, then maybe. I still think the crab trap is much better, if that's what you're looking for.

As far as fine dining goes, I still say that Beach Walk is the best in Destin proper. We don't ever make in to destin anymore as we stay out in the Santa Rosa area east of destin. There are some great joints out that direction - Fish Out of Water, Cafe 30-A, Cafe Tango, and the Lake Place has even opened back up. George's at Alys Beach is a fantastic casual joint. Stinky's Fish Camp is good too.

Ocean Club is very good along with The Harbor Dock. Very fresh fish at both places. Ocean Club is a little more dressy and The Harbor Dock is more casual.

Old Bay Steamer in Fort Walton is worth the drive from Destin. Great king crab and snow crab. You my want to go early though because they get pretty crowded. However, I think you may be able to seat yourself if you eat upstairs.

Going to Destin this weekend and was going to start a thread on restaurants there..

Last year I went to The Crab Trap and something else.. i forgot. But to be honest, beachy seafood is usually yuck anyway, so any other kinds of good restaurants there?

I looked online and Fat Clemenzas (Italian place) was very well-liked

This place is good if you like wood fired pizza. It's my favorite pizza in Destin. Of course, the pizza in that area generallyl sucks, but still.

I like Cantina Laredo and the Cafe at Tommy Bahama (no, really, it's actually very good). They are both east, on the other side of San Destin. I've always thought Ocean Club is just meh.

The Crab Trap is marginal at best. If you like the LA Lagniappe in BR, go to the one in Destin. Pretty nice view of the harbor and the food is great. Seafood restaurants outside of Louisiana suck. Captain Anderson's in Panama City is pretty good, but that is about it.

Lived there for 3 years...and I only thought of two decent seafood restraunts.
Louisiana Lagniappe
Blue Point Fish Club

Everything else is less than average if you are coming from La!

Old Bay Steamer in FWB is good..but its not Destin!

I'm glad someone else feels this way...I've never understood why this place gets so many props on this board.

Marina Cafe and Harbordocks are 2 of my favorites. Marina Cafe has excellent early bird dinner specials.

If you are looking for a drive, try the Boatyard in Panama City Beach. It is at a marina and is excellent.

Too far. There are four or five better restuarants within a ten minute drive from Water Color. Cafe 30-A, Fish out of Water, Cafe Tango, Lake House and Basmati's are all close.
