Kleinpeter ice cream

Tried it today for the first time. Bought a pint of "Bananas Foster." When I opened it, there was a layer of ice on top. But then, as I started eating it, I realized that the icy consistency was throughout the ice cream, as well. It also had a strange grittiness to it; it wasn't creamy at all. Overall it tasted OK; it's pretty hard to screw up something with cream, milk, sugar, and pralines in it. Still, I felt like it could have been much, much better.

I agree, I tried to adapt a taste to it for a while because I like to support Louisiana companies and always buy their milk, but it's just kind of gritty, not creamy enough for my liking.

I tried the pint size banana pudding and I thought it was good.

re: Kleinpeter ice cream

if there was a layer of Ice on the top it might have partially melted then refroze, which would make it icy

Maybe some stores are mishandling. I've bought most flavors and never found it gritty nor did any of them have an ice layer. Possibly it's mishandling on the Kleinpeter side and I've just been lucky to avoid. The egg nog flavor is really good.

Yea they are texturally inconsistent right now, but if you buy a good tub of one of their good flavors, it is good stuff. A good container of Cafe au lait is the best coffee ice cream sold in stores, IMO.

Sounds like it melted then refroze. Any ice cream sucks when that happens.

I tried to support a local, but it's really really bad. It's gritty, not creamy, the pralines, main ingredients, etc..in small portion.

Don Gerald and the Kleinpeters need to get a clue.

Their Milk is great, but this new endeavor is failing to date. And yet it has a proud price too!

I wouldn't eat their ice cream if it cost half it's current going rate..it's just a poor product.

Sounds more like a handling issue rather than the product itself.

can anyone type up an ingredients list for one of their ice creams? something basic like vanilla would be best.

just curious to see if there are preservatives or stabilizing agents in there.

More ice than cream, unfortunately.

i havent had a gritty one yet, but imo its not creamy enough. Considering the price and the quality of the milk, I expected it to be better. I did enjoy the cookies and cream. tried the gold brick that someone suggest on here and I was expecting more chunks of goldbrick rather than flakes.

re: Kleinpeter ice cream

With all the people saying this it leads me to believe that they're having some problems with packaging their product. I've had it before where it was great and other times I've tried it, it tastes freezer burnt (and I'm talking the same flavor on 2 different occasions so I'm comparing apples to apples)

That being said I do enjoy their Cafe Au Lait ice cream. It's pretty rich. I can get 4-5 servings out of a pint and be more than satisfied.

Tried it at a food show in New Orleans. To me,It seemed like an attempt to copy the old K&B ice cream. Needs a lot of work.
