....Most people that I know in southeastern Louisiana prefer to take I 55 to Memphis then cross Mississippi River staying on I 55 to St. Louis then across Missouri on I 70 to Kansas City then I 29 to Omaha.
You want to stay on Interstate as long as you can.
If you try to take a more direct route you will have many slow downs in north Louisiana and Arkansas since there are limited north south interstates there.

I drove to Little Rock via Interstate last summer and returned the more direct route through the state highways. It ended up being about 45 minutes longer of a drive but saved a lot on gas. Just watch for speed traps. All in all, it was a pleasant drive back; you see more of the state that way.

Cool. This sounds like what I'll take. Thanks.

Being from Lake Charles, La living in Des Moines, Ia. I'd do I10 BR to Lafayette. I49 to Sheveport Hwy 71 to KC I29 to Omaha.

I stopped and had lunch in Batesville last year on the way up (just happened to work out I needed gas & food at that point). My car definitely had "Omaha Bound... Geaux Tigers!" in car paint on the back, and the 3 of us were all wearing LSU apparel. & we definitely got some looks
I plan on doing it again tomorrow. We roll out of BR at 8am

Where do you live in Des Moines??
I lived in West Des Moines from '99-'07. Not too often that you come across an LSU fan up there

I'm leaving from BR at 6 and taking the same route.
We'll have the LSU car flag out! But we'll be a couple of hours ahead.

So what's the consensus? the 55 route or the 49?

I head back to BR each year from Des Moines and take the I55 route. I tried the other one and the interstate is a much better way to go. Some of dem highways in Arkansas suck.
