Anyone had it, if so how is it? I've heard a lot of good things and will be in the area this weekend.

Get the shrimp poboy with jalapeno mayo instead, made with sauteed shrimp in a great sauce, just don't wear a good shirt

Either the Shrimp or the Special. If you get anything else, you shouldn't be allowed back there.

Get the special with shrimp added. AKA surf n turf. It'll change your life, guarantee it.

+1 on the surf-n-turf.

They are closed on Sunday's, so don't wait too long.

Are the shrimp on the surf-n-turf fried or how are they cooked?

If you want to be politically correct, the shrimp is sauteed.

The Surf & Turf is the best poboy in the state! Don't leave the Chuck without one

Any idea what they are sauteed in? I'm trying to picture shrimp and roast together.

After looking at a few reviews on random sites, it says that the shrimp is pan-grilled. Sorry about that.

I've eaten there for the last 12 years and have always got either the Special or the Shrimp. I've never tried it surf-n-turf style, but I'll give it a shot next time I'm in LC.

About 10 years ago I was working in LC for about 4 months and everybody kept telling me to go to Darrell's and get a Shrimp poboy, well I was from BR had several shrimp poboys before some better than others and I was watching what I ate so I never got one, my last week on Monday somebody brought me a shrimp poboy with jalapaeno mayo and it was awesome, I think I ate 5 of them my last week, good thing I did not eat one my first week because I have no self control and I would have gained 50 lbs, have never had one even close to the way they make em

I'm originally from Lake Charles and every time I go home to visit the family I have to stop at Darrell's for a Darrell's Special with the jalapeno mayonaise. It's delicious! This is where everyone from back home eats. Since then, I've tried to find some place in Baton Rouge that even slightly compares to these sandwiches and no one has even come close.

After living in BR for 6 years and now NOLA, the closest thing I've found to the Special is the R&Os Special in Bucktown (Metairie).

Don't get me wrong. NOLA has its great poboys, but the Darrells Special is unlike anything I've ever eaten.

The best po boy I have ever had in baton Rouge was a Darrell's special that had just made the trip from the chuck. Guy I know took orders in BR and literally had a box full of them dropping them off. Amazing sandwich.

I ate there a few weeks ago for the first time after hearing about it on this board.

I got the special with the jalapeno mayo. While it was a good sandwich it was nothing special. The mayo tasted like it was just mayo mixed with pickled jalapenos, nothing earth shattering. The bread wasn't even close to poboy bread. I did not try to the shrimp.

If I am ever in Lake Chuck again I will go back and get the surf and turf but I won't venture to Lake Chuck just to eat there.

Pickled jalepenos? WTF?
Not even close to poboy bread? What the hell are you talking about? Their bread is awesome.

I'm not as big a fan of their shrimp, but the sausage is very good as well.
