So...Went to Chimes last night for dinner and drinks around 9:30...worst restaurant experience of my life. First, the waitress brings 2 of us the wrong beers. Then when she finally brings the drinks after 15 minutes she spills 3 of them down my other friend's back. Then to top off the night, their electricity went out before we had gotten our food besides appetizers. Said we couldn't leave without paying because they were trying to get their credit card machine running and kept us there an hour and a half. Finally, at 11:30 they told us we could leave without paying.

Worst service ever with the most incompetent workers ever. We asked if they had a back up plan and they looked at us like we were nuts.

Chimes is easily the most overrated restaurant in BR.

Call Tim Hood. He's very approachable and easy to talk to.

I'm sure he would like to hear your concerns.

Which location was that? LSU or Chimes East?

1) sit at cocktail area, you have to be worthwhile/tenure to get to be a waitress up there

2) if your mindset is "good beer, good atmosphere, decent food" you will enjoy yourself. unless he power goes out.

I've been to the Chimes a thousand times and only once can I think of a bad experience. My favorite place in BR.

Seems to me like you just had some serious bad luck in there last night. I mean, obvious accident that the waitress spilled the drinks, and the power going out is crazy.

Now, I do agree that its bullshite that they made you stay there for an hour and a half before they let you go. Hopefully you kept drinking.

I would try it again and bring a Rabbits Foot in your pocket.

I agree. The price we pay around LSU for student workers. I took my family a month or so ago, the food was terrible. The worst cheese fries I have ever had and that is simple junk food and shouldn't require rocket science.

I knew Tim when I was in college and he was opening the Varsity. Great guy.

I don't complain, I just don't go back. I am always surprised at the people that marvel at the Chimes and wonder if it isn't the LSU fascination (if you don't live here) or drinking. They always have had a good beer selection and I could see if I was getting hammered thinking it was good, but too me it was just bad bar food.

I was the one they spilled the drinks on!! Not a happy camper but I've worked in the industry before so I didn't raise hell. The drink machine was not working and they refused to let us order any other drinks because of the computer being down... I still don't understand how some tables were getting draft beer!

That's a death penalty offense in my book. How inept is the mang.? Are you just supposed to sit there with your thumb up your arse?!?

Yea I agree. There once was a time where computers weren't used to send orders. I don't understand why they didn't resort to that, especially when they decided they weren't going to let anyone leave!

FWIW, I've heard that the service at the Chimes has been gradually declining (new mang.? ). Granted your night was not a typical evening but I've heard a lot of people saying they were not satisfied with their recent visits.

i have never gotten the permanent hall pass that the chimes seems to get around here ... once you get past the pretty impressive beer selection, what do you have .. chimes east stays fricking packed too .. it amazes me ..
