All i can say is that ive been to the chimes about 3200 times and it's a LSU and BR staple.,, sorry but sometimes things happen thats outa managements control.

To give the chimes up is IMO a dumb DUMB thing to do.

Sorry, but I agree that Chimes is no better than Walk-Ons. I'll never understand the fascination with Chimes.

At a small dinner there tonight before the LSU game.

Onion Rings - MONEY. Still the best in town, IMHO.

Marinated Crab Claws - Great as usual...and the sauce goes terrific with the rolls they serve.

Dozen raw on the halfshell - Puny and watered down. Awful batch compared to 3 weeks ago. Worst oysters in BR tonight. Disappointing. Drusilla kills 'em here.

Caesar Salad - Very good and rich - the way I like it. Dressing is the perfect tangy.

Dinner rolls - Flash-baked and outstanding.

Service - Our waiter and waitress switched on us in the middle of our dinner. That's a no no. I have no idea other than their excuse of "shift change"...the first waiter remained in the restaurant and had to pass by us to go to his new tables...kinda awkward.

Beer wasn't as cold as usual. Don't know what that was about.

Chimes is what it is. 3/4 things are usually good. There's that 25 percent of your experience that sucks, though. Still Chimes>Walk-On's.

Things never to order from Chimes:

Swordfish (special)...as bad as Serrano's - dry and bland.
Salmon...terrible excuse for salmon...bland.
Cheese Fries...The quality of Frozen Ore Ida with Kraft singles...constipation city
Blackened Mahi-mahi (special)...Most of the time, just cooked all wrong and too much blackened.

Thanks. I try.

I believe that Chimes is a staple of BR and the LSU experience. I couldn't give it up, no matter how hard I try. It's just a special place that my friends and family and I all can enjoy together.

I was with my 3 best friends tonight, grubbing after a long day of drinking at the parade. These are three guys I have been eating at the Chimes with for 10-12 years. Then, out of the blue, my parents pop in for a pregame drink. They walked over and said hello to us and then they went to the bar area. That kinda sums it up...it's OUR place.

Riding, you an oyster fan and in BR?

If so, do not miss Oyster Night on Mondays at Drusilla. 25 cent raw, 35 cent friend and 35 cent chargrilled oysters all night. And they are GOOD. I go every Monday.

It has all the makings of something spectacular...location, atmosphere, history, beer selection, etc. I just wish they'd put a little more effort into the food and, on occasion, the service. Regardless though, like you said, you just can't give it up. As much as I bitch about the Chimes food and service I'll be sitting my arse down in there come Tuesday evening...just like usual

This statement could only be made by someone that OBVIOUSLY is

1) not very smart

2) has some connection to Walk-Ons.

HUGE fan...and yep, in BR. Grew up on the coast dredging for the little bastards to make extra money in high school. Props for the Drusilla reminder by the way...I've heard you guys make mention of it before but I'm going to have to give it a shot. Is the special for certain hours only?

I think Walk-On's might have the worst service of any dining establishment in BR, including IHOP.

The Chimes is better in every single category.

I also wonder this...

how do the Chimes tv's have the best HD picture of any restaurant in BR? I think they are Panasonics, too. They are money.

As fas as I know, Riding, it is for regular dinner hours...so I'd say 5-9.

It's quite a meal for the tough budget.
