any opinions to share on backpack blowers... I don't know what spec to really judge by... the cfm spec or the "air speed" spec... what's more important moving more air at maybe a slower speed or less air at a higher speed...?

Hunt. Check Northern Tools website to compare prices before making a decision on a local mower.
The place that I am debating on whether or not to buy the Husqy 54" had that mower for that exact price. From everything I can tell, they have a great price in line with other stores.
My thing is this, I realize that by buying a commercial mower I wouldnt have to buy a new one for a while, but I will only use this thing (MAX) once a week and thats only for 9-10 months out of the year. I have to believe if I keep it well maintained it can last at least 5-6 years.

a piece of crap will last 5 or 6 years residential use.

I went down the same road as you and from reading all of the lawnsite forums decided on a used commercial over a new residential.
Faster speed,better cut,more power,turns better,serviceable everything on it.
Blades hold up much better also since they are much heavier.
Just my opinion man, hope you get a good one.

Have you had any experience with Bob-Cat zero turns?
I've had an Exmark Lazer Z for the past ten years and my dealer is now handling the Bob-Cat. Says he is very impressed with the machine.

every dealer touts what they sell.

I understand that.
The commercial dealers won't stay in business long pushing crap. In my experience, they generally sell the better equipment.
After dealing with this guy for the past 10 years with the Exmark, I trust what he says. I just haven't talked to anyone who has owned a Bob-Cat.

I'm sure its a fine comercial mower. I would rather exmark just because I know about them.
My favorite is Grasshopper. Even over Dixie Chopper

You can't touch a new Dixie for $3500. They start around $5k when I looked

I'd look into Toro for sure as i own one. Depends really on how much your going to cut and how often, are you a little mechancially inclined or not, etc.

Quit being cheap and get a Dixie Chopper
Posted on 5/21/12 at 6:05 pm to lsuhunt555
Take that $3500 dollars and put a fence around your yard and fill it with goats. During the winter sell them to the Iranians that are running your local convenience stores and hotels. Win Win for everyone. Except for your cars which will look like they have been through a hailstorm after the goats climb all over them.

Finance a Kubota at 0% and be done with it

Yep, I am officially getting old. I am excited to go pick up my new mower because It will take less time to cut my grass.
I went with the Husqvarna. Too good a deal. Husqvarna MZ5225ZT is what I went with. Not quite the Commercial grade, but its much stouter and stronger than the basic Residential.
Appreciate the input guys. If not for the suggestions to go with Commercial, I would not have made the upgrade to higher end residential.
